Mitch Woods – A Night in New Orleans Live & Solo at Snug Harbor was recorded live at Snug Harbor in New Orleans, Louisianna on April 29, 2026, and released on the MoMojo Records label.
Having spent a lot of time in New Orleans throughout the years, it is a place that is truly unique from its music – Jazz, Blues, and Zydeco, to the food – Gumbo, Jambalaya, Po’ Boys, Muffaletta sandwiches, Etouffee, Bananas Foster, Beignets, Pralines, and more, to its famous cocktails the Sazerac and Hurricane, to its proud culture. Mitch Woods captures the unique essence of New Orleans on A Night in New Orleans Live & Solo at Snug Harbor with his selection of 12 great songs that are a delicious mélange of his originals, and other classic songs, plus his spoken introductions for many of them.
The release opens with the Mitch Woods song, Rock That Boogie, a rollicking, high-energy, fast-paced Boogie Woogie Blues song that shows his fun and prowess on the piano that will have you dancing around, shaking your fingers, and tapping your toes.
Next up is Mojo Mambo, another Mitch Woods composition, with his toast to New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, called Jazzfest, and has catchy lyrics “… do the Mojo Mambo with a Voodoo Queen…do the longhaired shuffle down in New Orleans…” Mitch slides into the 1946 Jump Blues song, Choo Choo Ch’boogie, written by Vaughn Horton, Milton Gabler, then segues into Denver Darling, which has interesting fast paced piano work.
Mitch slows the pace with his cover of the 1954 song Blue Monday written by Dave Bartholomew, then slides into Jambalaya (On the Bayou) written by Hiram Hank Williams in 1952 that is going to leave you hungry for more, for both the music, as well as the food of New Orleans.
The play list continues with another one of Mitch’s compositions, Amber Lee, which shows his prowess at composition as well as lyrics. Next up is the 1951 classic Rocket 88 written by Jackie Brenston, then Mitch drops in another of his own songs, Cryin’ for My Baby, a beautiful lament which slows the pace and lets the listener catch its breath. Mitch asks the audience to sing along on Nasty Boogie written by Jack Dupree back in 1959, asking them to sing out” yeah, yeah,” so feel free to join in and sing along.
Mitch deftly closes out the release with the 1965 Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu written by Huey Smith, another one of his own songs entitled Broke, and the classic 1954 song Shake Rattle & Roll written by Charles Calhoun.
From start to finish, Mitch Woods – A Night in New Orleans Live & Solo at Snug Harbor is a delectable love letter to New Orleans. Live music is the heartbeat and the pulse of New Orleans; thanks, Mitch for continuing the tradition with this fabulous release.
