It was a perfect summer night on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, New York for the sold-out concert by multi-Grammy award winner Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers in the outdoor Venetian Theatre. Longtime fans of Bruce Hornsby flocked to Caramoor for the opportunity to hear his unique blend of jazz, bluegrass, classical, and fusion music. Pianist, singer, and highly proliferate composer, Bruce Hornsby made his mark on the music world with his highly successful first album The Way It Is released in 1986, and like a snowball rolling downhill, he has kept the pace releasing one memorable album after another, gathering new fans along the way.
A multi-Grammy award winner (1987 – Best New Artist, 1990 Best Bluegrass Recording, and 1994 Best Pop Instrumental Performance), with many Grammy nominations, Bruce Hornsby is a celebrated pianist, singer, and composer. A few of the many memorable albums and songs from Bruce Hornsby’s impressive song list include The Way It Is (1986), Scenes from the Southside (1988), which gave fans the songs Look Out Any Window and Jacob’s Ladder, A Night on the Town (1990) and its fabulous title track, Harbor Lights (1993) with the stellar title track and Talk Of The Town, two of our favorite cuts off that album, and Hot House (1995) that introduced fans to the song, Spider Fingers.
Other choice albums included Rehab Reunion (2016), Absolute Zero (2019), Non-Secure Connection (2020), ‘Flicted (2022), Spirit Trail: 25th Anniversary Edition (2023), Deep Sea Vents (2024), Indigo Park (2026), and so many more great albums and songs too numerous to name all released throughout the years, which must have made choosing a song to open the August 1, 2026, concert at Caramoor a nice conundrum to have.
However, Bruce Hornsby and his 5-member band (bass player, drummer, violinist, guitarist, and keyboardist), did not take the audience on a trip down memory lane for the opening song, but rather opted for a cut off his latest album, Indigo Park released in April 2026, and then deftly moved around his playlist taking the audience on a fabulous ride of through his music interspersed from new to older releases.
The legendary guitarist Jerry Garcia (August 1, 1941 – August 9, 1995) of the Grateful Dead played on three of Bruce’s albums, A Night on the Town (1990), Harbor Lights (1993), and Hot House (1995). As it was Jerry posthumous birthday the night of the concert on (August 1, 2026), Bruce honored his memory by playing Across the River from his A Night on the Town album. Bruce also played the highly successful song, The End of the Innocence, which he said most people do not know that he co-wrote with Don Henley and released on Henley’s third solo studio album by the same name, released in 1989.
Bruce had fun throughout the evening rolling through different genres from jazz, to fusion, to classical, and bluegrass where he swapped out the piano and played the mountain dulcimer. A few of the other songs played included M.I.A. in M.I.A.M.I. from his Rehab Reunion album, Sneaking Up on Boo Radley from the Here Come The Noisemakers (2000), and Memory Palace off his latest release Indigo Park (2026), which he had recently played on the Jimmy Kimmel show. Bruce closed out the performance with Mandolin Rain off his 1986 first album, The Way It Is, which was where it all began and was the perfect finale for a sold-out performance. Bravo!
Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is a stunning 81-acre property which offers world-class performances and events throughout the year. During the Summer months, performances take place outdoors in their Venetian Theatre, and the rest of the year in the Music Room of the Rosen House, which was home to Walter and Lucie Rosen. Once you have found your way to Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, you will want to return many a time.
Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!
