We brought on the romance and had a luscious lunch with a view at The Wharf Restaurant located inside the Madison Beach Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, in Madison, Connecticut where Chef Brian Warmingham is the talent in the kitchen, and the stunning views of Long Island Sound are the perfect complement to the cuisine. As the day was gorgeous and sunny, we had lunch on their expansive wraparound deck with views of Long Island Sound. If we were any closer to the water, we would have needed to be on a boat.

Charred Shishito Peppers

The lunch menu is inspired and has enough selections to appeal to a variety of palates. We began by sharing an appetizer of Charred Shishito Peppers with gochujang vinaigrette, toasted sesame, and pickled raisins. This was a wow of an introduction to Chef Brian’s style. The addition of the gochujang vinaigrette and the pickled raisins really added zing to the shishito peppers and made them a standout.

We continued with another appetizer, the *MBH Tuna Tartare prepared with sashimi grade tuna, English cucumbers, avocado, soy, ginger, sesame seeds, and homemade wonton chips. This was a beautiful presentation that was sheer freshness and delight on the palate.

The next taste was from the Salads section, the Farro and Grilled Peach Salad with house mix (curly endive, red lettuce, radicchio) blueberries, red onion, pistachios, blue cheese, and honey balsamic. This salad was the essence of summer. Farro is one of the ancient grains and it provided both texture and protein as well as substance. While substantial on its own, if guests desired, they could add grilled chicken, shrimp, salmon, crabcake, or scallops to the salad for an additional charge.

Lobster Roll

Connecticut was the fifth state to join the Union, and as such, we like to do things a bit differently. When it comes to Lobster Rolls, Connecticut’s version is hot and buttered poached lobster presented in a New England roll, which is a top cut roll with the sides exposed, that are buttered and grilled, as opposed to other versions of lobster rolls which are cold lobster salad dressed with mayonnaise. Hot, buttered, and delicious, The Wharf Restaurant’s version was hands-down fabulous especially when accompanied by housemade potato chips, housemade bread and butter pickles, and freshly made coleslaw. We paired our selections with Hampton Water Rose (owned by Jon Bon Jovi and his son Jesse), which was light, luscious, and lovely.

For those with a sweet tooth, The Wharf Restaurant has an enviable and inspired dessert menu. On the day that we dined at the restaurant there was Strawberry Rhubarb Shortcake, Brown Butter Cake with passion fruit puree, limoncello blueberries, with fresh whipped cream, and Basque Cheesecake with chocolate covered strawberry, to name but a few.

As the pastry chef had created a special dessert for the day, a Chocolate Cake with White Mousse Filling, we opted to indulge, and share that. This tasty presentation was enhanced with drizzled dulce de leche and fresh red raspberries. Accompanied by double espressos, it was the perfect culmination of a delectable and gastronomic lunch at The Wharf Restaurant.

While we had lunch on the deck, the interior of the restaurant is lovely and would be especially inviting during the cooler months to sit inside and overlook Long Island Sound and fondly remember summer days.
