The latest release from GA-20 – GA-20 with Charlie Musselwhite: Blues Now, melds generations of music genius fusing Swamp Blues, Chicago Blues, and more to craft a release that will hold its own for generations to come. Bringing Grammy award winner Charlie Musselwhite’s 60+ years of Blues mastery along with the “youth” of GA-20 was Blues and music chemistry at its best.

GA-20 with Charlie Musselwhite: Blues Now was Produced by Mattew Stubbs, Mixed by Pat Dicenso and Matthew Stubbs and released on the New West Records label. The release features the core band members of GA-20 (Cody Nilesn, Matthew Strubbs, Josh Kiggans), guest bassist Marty Ballou, and the legendary Charlie Musselwhite. The “marriage” of this extraordinary group draws upon decades of musicianship.
The release opens with the Wille Dixon cover, Crazy Love, that sets the bar at a level that has you craving for the next, and next, and next track. Blazing harmonica work riding on scintillating guitar riffs coupled with powerful vocals is the perfect amuse-bouche to awaken your Blues palate. The release follows up with the track, I Can’t Hold Out, by Elmore James, and Charlie Musselwhite’s vocals are pure down and dirty Swamp Blues.
The release transitions to the cover of the David Parker and Manuel Villa track, I’ll Change My Style, a beautiful slow song that features captiavating lyrics. Staying with the slow sultry format is the track, Big Stars Falling, by Ben Whittaker, that has the band meshing with a steamy Blues rendition.
The harmonica forward instrumental track from Earl Hooker and Junior Wells, Universal Rock, resets the release’s table as the band turns the energy up a “FEW” notches and wails away letting their individual musicianship blaze the trail. Charlie Musselwhite digs deep with his arresting vocals and harmonica work on the track, The Blues Never Die, by Otis Spann. The Charlie Musselwhite original track, Strange Land, features Charlies’ deep vocals and engaging harmonica.
The release closes with the tracks, Stroll Out West, by Eddie Taylor, followed by, Short Dress Woman, by J.T. Brown and made famous by Blues Legend Muddy Waters, and closes with the slow strolling track, Cristo Redentor, by Charlie Musselwhite, that allows the energy from this foreceful release to float away leaving you relaxed and saying, “again.”
