Eliane Elias – Quietude was recorded in São Paulo, Brazil and produced by Eliane Elias, Marc Johnson, and Steve Rhody on the Candid Records label with a launch date of October 14, 2022. Eliane Elias arranged all songs on 11-track album (vinyl), which consists of 5 songs on the A side, and 6 songs on the B side, the release is also available on CD.

Side A of the album opens with the 1967 song, Você e Eu (You and I), written by Carlos Lyra (born in 1933) and Vinicius de Moraes (1913-1980). Eliane Elias’ vocals complemented by her piano arrangement make this a stunner right out of the box. Sung in Portuguese, this song will have you booking a trip to Brazil to experience the beauty of the country. Long, crystalline piano instrumentals on this song showcase her piano mastery. Lula Galvâo plays guitar on this one, and Paulo Braga layers in drums and percussion.

She follows that up with the 1947 song Marina, written by Dorival Caymmi (1914-2008). Eliane slows the pace on this gorgeous ballad that opens with an intro by Marcus Teixeira on guitar, Marc Johnson on bass, and Celso de Almeida on drums.

Next on the playlist is Bahia Com H (Bahia with H), also from 1947, a beautiful ballad written by Denis Brean (1917-1969). Marcus Texeira joins Eliane on this one.

Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) was a prolific and legendary composer, and Só Tinha Que Ser Com Você (This Love That I’ve Found) written by Jobim and Aloysio de Oliveira (1914-1995) is a brilliant legacy of his talent. This song picks up the pace with its bossa nova rhythms and sharply elegant fast-paced piano work. Marcus Teixeira, Marc Johnson, Celso de Almeida, and Paulo de Braga also play on this song.

Eliane closes Side A of the album the hauntingly beautiful, and slow ballad, the 1975 song, Olha (Look) written by Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos, which features Eliane’s vocals and Lula Galvâo’s guitar.

Side B of the album features 6 more great songs and opens with Bahia Medley – Saudade da Bahia/Você Já Foi á Bahia (You’ve Already Been to Bahia) written by Dorival Caymmi. Lula Galvâo and Paulo Braga provide the instrumentals to complement Eliane’s stunning vocals.

Put your dancing shoes on for the next song, E Samba Mesmo (I Really Samba) written in 1946 by Janet de Almeida. Marcus Teixeira layers in piano with Eliane’s sparkling piano work. Bolinha de Papel (Little Paper Ball), is a lively and fast paced song that inspires dancing, so be ready to party. Eliane keeps the mood going as she slides into Tim-Tim-Por Tim-Tim, sparkles with crisp bossa nova rhythms.

Eliane beautifully arranges and covers another Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes song, Brigas Nunca Mais (No More Fighting), from 1959. Coming into the home stretch of the album, she slows the pace to let the listener catch their collective breath on this one.

Side B of the album closes with the slow and lovely, Saveiros written by Dori Caymmi (son of Dorival Caymmi) and Nelson Motta, with Eliane on the piano and Lula Galvâo on guitar and vocals, and that is more than enough. From start to finish, Eliane Elias has produced another masterfully crafted album with Quietude that will have you hitting the reset button over and over again.

Until next time, keep enjoying the music!
