The Dave Weckl Band Live in St.
Louis at the Chesterfield Jazz Festival 2019 was released on the Autumn Hill Records
label.
Jazz fans may know Dave Weckl from
his illustrious career playing with such legends as the late Chick Corea, Mike
Stern, Lee Ritenour, Oz Noy, and many others, as well as with his own band, The
Dave Weckl Band, which disbanded in 2006. The Chesterfield Jazz Festival held
in St Louis in 2019 brought The Dave Weckl Band back together for an
outstanding moment of musical history.
The Dave Weckl Band Live in
St. Louis at the Chesterfield Jazz Festival 2019 is the band's first
recording since 2005, and the wait was well worth it. Dave, together with Gary,
Jay Oliver, Tom Kennedy, and Buzz Feiten kick out and lay it all on the line
for this stellar 11-track release. Selecting music from their 1998 debut album,
The Dave Weckl Band: Rhythm of the Soul, the release has a positive
energy flow and a tight cohesiveness that flows throughout their live
performance.
Dave Weckl writes about the
release, "It's a really good feeling for me to have the band come back
together and perform this music that we conceived 25 or 30 years ago.
Especially now, to be able to share the live experience since many of us
haven't had much of a chance to do this latterly, since it feels like we've
been living on another planet. I think people are hungrier than ever just to
have a reminder like this."
Like their debut 1998 album, Rhythm
of the Soul, the release opens with the funky track, The Zone, which
paves the way for the release. This is high octane Jazz at its best with some
killer sax licks from Gary Meek, making this song a winner. Listen to a

Also included from the 1998 album
are Mud Sauce where the band takes it down a notch and eases into this
stellar tune, 101 Shuffle takes the listener into the cool groove, also
off the Rhythm of the Soul album, Song for Claire, and Big B Little B,
which Dave kicks off with some powerful drumming. Other great tracks on the
playlist are Tribute, where Jay Olivier shines on keyboards, and the
up-tempo What Happened to My Good Shoes. Dave Weckl and Tom Kennedy
create a little duet drum and bass magic on the 1957 Thelonious Monk tune, Rhythm-A-Ning,
followed by Synergy, and Tower '99, where Dave lays down a
powerful drum intro that it sure to please listeners. The release closes
with the fabulous Access Denied where you can hear and feel the energy
of the live audience. If you love instrumental Jazz with a little Funk
mixed in, be sure to pick up the release and give The Dave Weckl Band
Live in St. Louis at the Chesterfield Jazz Festival 2019 a listen.
Until next time, keep enjoying the
music!
