On Saturday, May 2, 2026, we attended the opening of Connecticut-based abstract artist Patrick Alston’s exhibition at Heather Gaudio Fine Art, entitled “Apertures” and had the opportunity to meet and speak with the artist to discuss his large-scale, bold, and vibrant works, as well as speak with gallery Director, Rachael Palacios. Formerly located in New Canaan, the gallery moved to its new location in Greenwich three years ago and is a welcome addition to the luxurious offerings on the Avenue.

Speaking with Patrick Alston, we learned that he creates his multi-layered textural paintings using a mixed media of washes, acrylic paints, oils, and even spray paints to achieve the desired effect and emotion for each of his paintings. Colors play an important part of emotions and his deft use of color selection in his paintings results in paintings with a rich vibrancy with bold colors that evoke profound emotions. Growing up in the Bronx, in New York City, he was surrounded by graffiti, and his paintings have markings that carry throughout the collection for a unified cohesiveness.

Especially notable were his Apertures paintings done with acrylics, charcoal, gouache, oil, oil stick and spray paint on paper measuring 24 x 30-inches/26.5 x 31.25 x 1.5-inches framed (61 x 76.2 cm/67.3 x 79.3 x 3.8 framed) presented on the gallery wall as a grouping of six paintings, three over three, with Apertures 5, Apertures 6, and Apertures 3 on the top row, followed by Apertures 4, Apertures 1, and Apertures 2 on the lower row, that made a powerful statement and impact that was exciting, visually stimulating and inviting. While each of the Aperture paintings were stunning on their own, presented in a grouping of six paintings, the work became more powerful and visually appealing.

Also striking was Patrick Alston’s large-scale painting entitled “Voices In The Wilderness, 2025/2026” measuring an impressive 82 x 100 x 1.5-inches (208.3 x 254 x 3.8 cm) done in acrylic, gouache, oil, oil stick, pastel, and spray paint on sewn fabric.

Another large-scale and gorgeous work in the 19-painting exhibition was “Transcendence, 2026” a Diptych (two paintings presented side by side) done in acrylic, charcoal, gouache, oil, oil stick, and spray paint on sewn fabric measuring 60 x 120 inches (152.4 x 304.8 cm). With its rich color palette of bright orange, yellow, turquoise, lilac, neon, grass green, red, and white elements, it draws the eye and immediately elevates and lightens the mood.

Whether you are an art collector or just appreciate abstract art, Patrick Alston’s work must be experienced in person to be truly appreciated.
