Some things are worth waiting for, like veteran Bluesman Duke Robillard’s latest release, Duke Robillard – Roll With Me, released on the Stony Plain Records label. Interesting to note is this release should have happened back in 2005, however it fell by the wayside when Duke was working on another project. It finally hits the streets on August 30, 2024, however, I gave it an early listen, and this release cooks with all the right Blues genres: Jump Blues, Swing Blues, and down and dirty Blues, to great success. Joined by a host of Blues legends, this release is definitely worth adding to your Blues collection!

Duke Robillard – Roll With Me was produced by Duke Robillard with Executive Producer Holger Peterson and released on the Stony Plain Records label. This 12-track Blues release features four songs written by Duke Robillard, with the balance composed by other Blues greats.
Duke gets this up-tempo Blues release off to a jumping start with an Eddie Boyd song called Blue Coat Man written back in 1952. He follows that up with one of his own compositions called Just Kiss Me which brings on romance and features five horns. Duke notes that he considers it one of his best Blues compositions, and it is indeed mighty fine. Catchy lyrics and exceptional instrumentals make this song a standout on the release.
Next on the play list is another 1950s Blues number, this one written by Antoine “Fats” Domino and Dave Bartholomew in 1953 called Are You Going My Way, and has a fabulous piano and horn intro. The release segues into I Know You Love Me written by Joe Turner, a Blues lament with wailing horns, sparkling piano, and lyrics that will have you singing along.
Boogie Uproar written by Don Robey picks up the tempo for a rollicking and sassy number that includes a riff from the song from Here Comes The Bride. Other great songs on the release include Look What You Done, written by McKinley Morganfield “Muddy Waters” in 1960, with Chris Cote on vocals, Built For Comfort, written by Willie Dixon in 1959, My Plea, another Duke Robillard song, and You Got Money, written by Rick Ravon Darnell, with Chris Cote on vocals on this one as well.
Boogie Woogie Country Girl, written by Reginald Asby and Jerome Pomus from 1956 is Boogie Woogie Blues at its best. Duke closes this stellar release with two more of his own fabulous songs with Give Me Back My Money, and Don’t You Want to Roll With Me. Duke Robillard – Roll With Me is a release to be enjoyed for many years. Thanks, Duke, for bringing this release to light; it was well worth the wait.
