We had the pleasure of attending The Mountaintop on opening night, Saturday, February 5, 2022. The play synopsis states that it is, "a gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people."

The play takes an imagined look at the last hours of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life as he reflects on what he has accomplished and what he feels he still has left to do. Chaz Rose is brilliant in his powerful and enthralling portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Shavonna Banks brings sass and spirit to her role as the mysterious Camae. Director Gayle Samuels elicits the best from her cast and delivers Katori Hall’s play with a tremendously powerful impact. Bravo! The Mountain Top runs until February 20, 2022, and is a "must-see" play.
