The Westport Country Playhouse in Westport, Connecticut has a long history of theatre excellence and the upcoming season is brilliant. On May 27, 2026, we attended a very special preview in the Westport Country Playhouse’s Barn with Artistic Director Mark Shanahan who announced their exciting 2026-2027 season. which features six plays, including two world premieres. The Playhouse celebrates its 96th season this year and their 2026-2027 schedule offers something for everyone with a comedy, a musical, a murder mystery, a memoir, and a holiday show. Bravo!

Mark Shanahan
Throughout the years, we have seen amazing productions on the Westport Country Playhouse’s stage, and the program schedule for 2026-2027 is dazzling. Having seen other Ken Legwig plays, we are looking forward to seeing Ken Ludwig’s Pride and Prejudice, Part 2: Napoleon at Pemberley. We first saw Mark Shanahan’s play, A Sherlock Carol when it made its debut in New York City, and then again on the Westport Country Playhouse’s stage. It has now become a holiday tradition!
The play, Murder for Two, written by Kellen Blair with music by Joe Kinosian sounds like such fun and a perfect “who done it.” The Pancake Club written by Charlotte Booker makes its world premiere on the WCP stage and stars Judith Ivey as a waitress in a small-town diner. Elvis fans will love the play, The Legend of Georgia McBride written by Matthew Lopez about an Elvis impersonator, and The Goldsmith written and performed by Broadway actress Sharone Sayegh who tells the story of her own family’s journey.
With so many fabulous plays for the 2026-2027 season, we cannot wait for the season to unfold. Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!

About the Westport Country Playhouse
“Originally built in 1835 as a tannery manufacturing hatters’ leathers the building that would become Westport Country Playhouse was in 1880 turned into a steam-powered cider mill and later abandoned in the 1920s.Splendidly transformed into a theater in 1931, it initially served as a try-out house for Broadway transfers, evolving into an established stop on the New England straw hat circuit of summer stock theaters through the end of the 20th century. Following a multi-million-dollar renovation completed in 2005, the Playhouse became a producing, non-profit, regional theater, preserving its original charm and character.”
The Westport Country Playhouse, named as “Theatre Company of the Year” in December 2013 by The Wall Street Journal, opened on June 29, 1931, in a transformed 1835 cow barn, which has, and continues to attract, a “who’s who” of prominent actors. When you visit the Westport Country Playhouse, be sure to take time to look at the photos and playbills that line the walls of the two-story theatre to see the “who’s who” of actors who have appeared throughout the years.
