Samantha Fish and her Band
The Warehouse at Fairfield Theatre Company
Samantha Fish returned to FTC on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, after a 3-year absence, and the fans were more than ready for her. She strutted onstage looking like a blonde bombshell wearing black leather and rhinestones, then proceeded to rock the night with her fast-fingered guitar work that she is known for, as well as her impressive talent as a singer songwriter. Joining Samantha was her tour band comprised of Sarah Tomek on drums, Ron Johnson on bass, and Matt Wade on keyboards.
Samantha Fish
She opened the show with three new songs off her latest album, Faster, released on September 10, 2021 on the Rounder Records label, beginning with Loud followed by All Ice No Whiskey, a fabulous tongue in cheek song, where the lyrics state, "you miss when you kiss me, you’re all ice, no whiskey…" then segued into Twisted Ambition.
Samantha Fish
Fans always want to hear older music as well as the new, and Samantha indulged them with the song Hello Stranger off her Chills & Fever 2017 release. The lyrics about it being a long time since she had seen her friend was especially appropriate with her return to playing at the FTC after 3 years. She deftly segued into the song Love Letters off her Kill or Be Kind 2019 studio album, followed by Forever Together, another new song off the Faster release.
Sarah Tomek
Next on the set list was No Angels – off the Belle of the West 2017 release, which was a great Blues number. Samantha showed off her powerful vocals as she belted out the very catchy Better Be Lonely off the Faster release. She rocked Kill or Be Kind with its long instrumental intro that segued into slow and sultry before picking up the pace, followed by Watch It Die, both cuts off her 2019 Kill or Be Kind release.
Ron Johnson
Switching to an acoustic guitar, she performed two solos songs to create a more intimate experience for the audience, with just Samantha on stage. She covered the 1970 Gladys Knight song, If I Were Your Woman, with her own arranging and vocal styling that made it her own, while honoring the great Gladys Knight. With the fans cheering her on, she performed one more acoustic solo, before the band returned and they segued into Crowd Control off the Faster release, which had amazing harmonies to complement the guitar work.
Matt Wade
Samantha took the fans back to 2015 with the song Bitch On The Run, off her Wild Heart release, which had gorgeous long instrumental segments to highlight the talent of the band, followed by So Called Lover off the Faster release. Throughout the evening Samantha played different guitars to elicit her exacting sound to complement the pace, rhythm and feel for her songs. She is a consummate artist that strives for, and delivers the very best.
Samantha Fish
She closed out the show with two more cuts off her Kill or Be Kind release, Dream Girl, and Bulletproof, deftly providing the fans with a solid mix of older and newer music. After a standing ovation, Samantha and the band returned to the stage to perform Shake Em On Down, to leave the audience with a lagniappe – a little something more to keep the incredible vibe going.
River Kittens
Nate Gilbert, Allie Vogler, Mattie Schell, Jakob Baxter
The River Kittens, a St. Louis based duo comprised of Allie Vogler and Mattie Schell opened the show for Samantha Fish. Joining Allie and Mattie on stage for the Fairfield concert were bass player Nate Gilbert and Jakob Baxter. Allie and Mattie are known for their rich harmonies, which vividly came across on their cover of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 song, Atlantic City, as well as on their own material, Trouble, Dressing On The Side with its humorous lyrics about working in a restaurant, Coast To Coast about the downside of returning home after a tour, and Not Your Babe, all songs off their new debut CD, Soaking Wet, released on Devon Allman’s Create Records label.
After a long time of not being able to attend live concerts due to Covid-19 restrictions, it felt fabulous to be back at The Warehouse in Fairfield, Connecticut enjoying a concert with the tremendously talented Samantha Fish and her band, and the River Kittens, who both delivered their best for a memorable evening of music.
After performing for just minutes shy of two solid hours of a powerhouse performance, Samantha Fish was at a meet and greet after the show, signing merchandise for appreciative fans who lined up to purchase CDs, vinyl, and T-shirts, and were happy to have her back in Fairfield, Connecticut at The Warehouse working her magic on her guitar and through her storytelling lyrics. Bravo!
Samantha Fish will be touring throughout the United States for the rest of 2021, then heads to Europe in at the end of January 2022 to continue the tour. If you have the opportunity to catch a Samantha Fish performance, do so, it is so worthwhile.

Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!
