Born in Madrid, Spain to Flamenco musicians, Diego El Cigala began his solo career in 1997 with his first release Undebel. Since then, he has traveled the world bringing his beautiful vocals, his passion, and his music to his audiences during his exciting live performances, as well as via his recordings.
In 2001, he received a Latin Grammy® nomination for Best Flamenco CD for his release, Corren Tiempos de Alegria. He won his first Latin Grammy® Award in 2003 for Lagrimas Negras (Black Tears), his second Latin Grammy® Award in 2006 for Picasso en mis ojos (Picasso in my eyes), and his third Latin Grammy® Award in 2010 for Best Tango for the release Cigala & Tango. To say that Diego El Cigala is a major talent in the world of contemporary Flamenco music would be an understatement. His latest release Romance de la luna Tucuman continues his exploration of the Argentinean tango tradition and folk classics, El Cigala style.

On November 11, 2014, Diego El Cigala brought his impressive Flamenco style to Stamford, Connecticut, one of the many stops on his first major North American tour. Called "Flamenco Royalty" by the BBC, and is often referred to as "the Sinatra of Flamenco," Diego El Cigala enchanted the audience with his voice and through the passion of the music. With his exotic good looks and flowing, long dark curly hair and beard he is the embodiment of the romance of Flamenco. Be-ringed hands flashing as he counted claps, an essential part of Flamenco, he engaged the audience to participate and become a part of the music, rather than just listen to it, taking us along on an journey of the spirit.
Performing for 2-hours without an intermission, Diego El Cigala sang many cuts off his Romance de la luna Tucumana release, (Canción de las simples cosas, Naranjo en flor, Los mareados, Milonga de Martín Fierro, Déjame que me vaya, Romance de la luna Tucumana, Siempre París, Por una cabeza, Balderrama, Nieblas del riachuelo, Canción para un niño en la calle), as well as from his prior releases, bringing a rich sensuality to the world of contemporary Flamenco with his beautiful voice accompanied by a talented cast of musicians. Pianist Jaime Calabuch "Jumitus" contributed some memorable pieces, as did Dan Ben Lior on electric guitar, Yelsy Heredia on double bass, and Isidro Suarez on percussion. Bravo!
