Alastair Greene proves his mettle not only as a talented guitarist, but also as a singer songwriter, having written all songs on the release, excepting the Billy F. Gibbons song, Nome Zayne. The release opens with Dream Train featuring just the trio – Alastair Greene, Jim Rankin, and Austin Beede, cranking out hard and heavy Southern Rock, and that is enough. Next is the line-up is Big Bad Wolf, which knocked me out with its fabulous guitar riffs.

The trio fully does justice to the only cover on the release, Nome Zayne written by Billy F. Gibbons, and then slides into Another Lie featuring guitar master Walter Trout, who played with Canned Heat, and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, before venturing out on his own, who adds his distinctive style to this track, with Mike Finnigan layering in Hammond organ.

I always wonder about the inspiration for song titles, and reading the liner notes I learned that Song For Rufus "is dedicated to my feline buddy, Rufus. I’ll always love you & miss you." This is soft and sweet with some great guitar picking on this one.

I’m The Taker picks up the pace and winds out, followed by Daredevil which appealed to my adventurous nature with its apt lyrics that goes out to all daredevils, "…I ain’t no doctor, but I think something’s wrong with your head…" with Mike Finnigan on the Hammond organ, Dennis Gruenling on harmonica, and Jim Rankin adding additional harmony vocals.

Grateful Swagger features Debbie Davies on guitar, and the title describes it perfectly. Next in the line-up is Rain Stomp, and Demons Down. Iowa is a lovely instrumental piece dedicated to the memory of his grandmother, Violet Greene, and has wonderful guitar melodies, with Mike Finnigan on Hammond organ.

Mike Zito who used to play with the Royal Southern Brotherhood before going off to pursue a solo career, plays some killer guitar on the next to last track Down To Memphis. The 13-track release deftly closes with just the trio on Lucky 13, a catchy Jump Blues song.

Until next time, keep enjoying the music!
