Staying at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville,
Connecticut was the perfect winter weekend getaway. We stayed for the weekend at the
Mohegan Sun in late January 2022 to attend their 18th annual Mohegan
Sun - Sun Wine & Food Festival. Over the course of three days, we
were able to "discover" much that this stunning property offers.

Located on 185 acres, Mohegan Sun
opened in 1996, and has continued to grow and expand its offerings for guests
making it a world-class destination with sumptuous guestrooms, a diverse
selection of restaurants that range from fine dining to more casual fare, Mandara
Spa, pool, fitness center, golf course, casino, excellent shopping, and a
plethora of entertainment and events.
Lobby
The Mohegan Sun has two hotel
towers, the Sky Tower, which has 1,200 well-appointed and elegant guestrooms
(200 of which are suites) and at 34-stories, it is Connecticut's tallest
building, and the Earth Tower, built in 2016, which has an additional 400
guestrooms (39 of which are suites).
We stayed at the hotel from
January 28 - 30, 2022 in the Sky Tower, where we stayed on the 29th
floor and watched the green winter landscape turn into a white winter wonderland
with snow swirling in the air and snow drifts covering the formerly barren
ground from the wall of windows.
Our attractive and spacious Deluxe
King guestroom in the Sky Tower was a welcome respite between the exciting
weekend festival events. The guestroom featured an inviting king bed dressed in
sumptuous linens and a plethora of pillows, with a cream leather and wood
headboard, flanked by nightstands and sconces perfect for bedtime reading.

There was a high tufted-back love
seat which was a pull-out sofa, a large marble topped desk with a comfortable
velvet chair, and a real philodendron plant on a metal stand to add a bit of
greenery to the room. Attractive artwork graced the walls, along with a large
television positioned over the combination refreshment center with a
coffeemaker, well-stocked mini-bar, and mini-refrigerator.

There was a safe in the closet,
which also had a full-length mirror on the inside door, and an iron and ironing
board. The spacious marble bathroom had a separate enclosed toilet, an
assortment of toiletries, a vanity mirror, ceiling light, hairdryer, and combination
tub with shower. Other hotel amenities included an in-room iPad and free
parking.
TAO Asian Bistro & Lounge
Mohegan Sun has an excellent
variety of restaurants to appeal to diverse palates. During our stay we had a
wonderful dinner at the new restaurant, TAO Asian Bistro & Lounge, (TAO Group) located just off the Sky Tower Hotel Lobby.
The restaurant is stunning and focuses on Asian-inspired specialties, and
Chinese, Japanese, and Thai techniques. We thoroughly enjoyed our selections of
Filet Mignon "Tokyo: Style with marrow, mushroom, and onion, Thai Sweet and
Spicy Shrimp with tamarind and bell pepper, and Olive Fried Rice with olive
leaf, haricot verts, and trumpet mushrooms. (Read more about our dining

For the 18th annual
Mohegan Sun - Sun Wine & Food Festival there was much to experience beginning
on Friday, January 28, 2022 with Whiskeys of the World presented by Beam
Suntory, Inc. with special guests, Chefs Kevin Des Chenes (Chef Kev D), Brian
Duffy, Lamar Moore, and David Rose; Grand Tasting Preview with the
opportunity to sample a diverse selection of wine, beer, and spirits, watch
celebrity chef demos, and purchase tastings from restaurants; and A Night
with Tom's Good Lovin' with Tom Sandoval and Tm Schwartz at Novelle where

Brand Ambassadors and Chefs
On Saturday, there was the Grand
Tasting, Tao & Sushi Pairing at Tao, Vintage Cru for wine
connoisseurs, and the Celebrity Chef Dine Around featuring an astounding
number of chefs who paired their delicious creations with selected wine, beer,

The festival culminated with Game
Day Brunch hosted by Buddy "Cake Boss" Valastro with special guest, Victor

During our stay we also found
between events to watch the sound check for the rock band Foghat, who was
performing in the Wolf's Den later that evening, as there is always something
wonderful happening at the Mohegan Sun.
