We had a fabulous stay at The J House Greenwich on August 25, 2023. When the hotel described their guestrooms as being high-tech, little did we know what that meant, until we experienced this luxury boutique hotel. Their technology included control panels where we could control the solar shades, blackout shades, control all the lights, turn on or off the privacy light, and more from various panels conveniently located around the guestroom by simply pressing a button.
Our 252-square foot King Superior guestroom had lots of luxury plusses that started with the bed with its ultra-comfortable Serta top mattress dressed with high-thread count white linens, a plethora of pillows so that even Goldilocks could find one that was just right, and a decorative pillow with the word "relax" scripted on it to remind guests to stop and enjoy their time at The J House Greenwich.
Guest Room
The bed was flanked with built-in nightstands and adjustable swing arm reading lights perfect for reading business briefs, an engaging book, or one of the many magazines arranged on the large desk. A comfortable orange leather chair flanked the desk, a "technology control center" was positioned on the wall, along with a Keurig coffeemaker and a selection of coffees and teas, and a mini refrigerator was positioned under the desk. A side table and a velvet armchair with a decorative pillow positioned by the wall of windows provided a comfortable place to relax or to enjoy a coffee. Other in-room amenities included a 55-inch LED mirror television, a digital safe in the closet for guests’ safety, along with robes, slippers, and an iron and ironing board.
The bathroom featured a double-wide shower with rainfall showerhead along with a handheld shower wand, a 15-inch bathroom mirror television, hairdryer, vanity mirror, an Advanced Toto "Neorest" Automatic Toilet, and custom bathroom accessories from the luxury brand, NEST Fragrances.
Mick Jagger
The J House Greenwich is gorgeous with its hip and modern lines softened by an eclectic and fabulous collection of artworks that grace the public spaces as well as the guestrooms, and artsy furniture that captures the eye. One of our favorite art pieces was the large glass photograph of Mick Jagger that hangs in the reception area that upon closer inspection is made up of tiny square photographs of Mick and friends that are layered over his famous face. Also fun, is the video montage of the people who were involved in the opening of The J House Greenwich in 2012 who appear to be climbing up the wall, and a sculptured pair of shapely legs that invites guests to sit beside them next to the roaring fire in the "living room" of the hotel.
The Legs Have It!
Staying at The J House Greenwich is like staying in a contemporary art gallery as there is impressive artwork located throughout the inside as well as the outside of the hotel with its art "graffiti" walls that lead to the pool. Indoors, the metal sculptures and the robots were especially endearing with their miscellaneous mix of "found" elements that gave them their unique personalities. One of our favorite metal sculptures had eyebrows made from golf clubheads and wild bent metal spikes for hair, and the "War of the Worlds" robot was an homage to the movie, made from "found metal objects" by William H. Herzfeld.
"Living Room"
Art lovers will especially appreciate the hotel’s art receptions that are held on the last Tuesday of the month in their art gallery. As an example, their Tuesday, August 29, 2023, reception featured local artist Sholeh Janati. Be sure to check their website for information on their next art reception.
Tony’s at the J House
Wonderful amenities at The J House Greenwich include their heated outdoor pool where we enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing poolside, 2 bars, a sushi bar, and their restaurant, Tony’s at the J House, where we had a delectable dinner on Friday night. Two of the highlights of our dinner included the Colorado Rack of Lamb with a Dijon mustard crust, garlic mashed potatoes, and lamb au jus, and the Tagliatelle Truffle with black truffle, cream, truffle Romano cheese, topped with a lobster tail. Both entrees were amazing. In addition to dinner, the restaurant also serves breakfast, lunch, and Sunday Brunch. (Read more about our dining experience in the Restaurants section.)
Colorado Rack of Lamb
Other hotel amenities include their J Spa, Fitness Center, Business Center, and their Coffee Bar where they serve a complimentary Continental Breakfast perfect as a "grab and go" option or to enjoy in their light-filled attractive space. Before checking out of the hotel, we had a lovely breakfast in the Coffee Bar where there was an inviting selection of mini-Danish pastries, mini-muffins, croissants, and bagels, along with hard boiled eggs, granola bars, a selection of Chobani yogurt, fruit salad, fresh fruit, three types of cereal, orange juice, coffee, and tea.
Fitness Center
Guests that like to travel with their dogs will appreciate that dogs under 50 pounds are permitted in designated pet friendly rooms for a fee of $75 per night. Pet friendly rooms are subject to availability and must be booked in advance. The J House has an amenity fee of $15 which includes valet parking, continental breakfast from 6:30 am until 9:00 am, complimentary drip coffee, wireless internet, and use of their fitness center. The J House has special packages including their beach package with access to Tod’s Point Beach, and a package to the Bruce Museum of Art. However, it is ultimately the staff that makes a hotel stay, and the staff at The J House exceeds itself in ensuring that guests have a great stay.
Swimming Pool
There is always something wonderful happening in Greenwich in every season, so whether you are traveling for business or leisure, The J House Greenwich has all the bells and whistles to make for a fabulous stay and its convenient location a short distance off I-95 makes it the perfect base to explore Greenwich’s many offerings.
