Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg,
New Jersey has all the bells and whistles for a perfect getaway in any
season and features three golf courses, indoor and outdoor pools,
two spas, twelve restaurants, and so many activities
that you wish there were a few more hours in the day to experience them all. We
thoroughly enjoyed discovering what this AAA Four-Diamond resort
has to offer. Conveniently located one hour from the George Washington Bridge,
and 70 miles from Greenwich, Connecticut, the resort is close enough for a
perfect weekend getaway.

Crystal Springs Resort
The resort consists of two hotels,
Grand Cascades Lodge and Minerals Hotel. We stayed at the resort the first
weekend in March 2022 when there was a chill in the air, and a little snow
remaining in places. The resort is nestled against a backdrop of the Appalachian
Mountain Range and the rolling hills of its three world-class golf courses
(Wild Turkey Golf Club, 18-holes, Course Rating/Slope 75.3/135), Crystal
Springs Golf Club, 18-holes, Course Rating/Slope 73.5/139, and Cascades Golf
Club, 9-holes, Course Rating/Slope 37.7/141).
We stayed at Grand Cascades Lodge
in a stunning one-bedroom suite which consisted of a separate bedroom with king
bed and a great room with living room with gas fireplace, dining area, and
fully equipped gourmet kitchen with stove, full-size refrigerator, coffee
maker, dishwasher, and washer and dryer, perfect for longer stay vacations. In
addition to the king bed in the separate bedroom, there was also a pull-out
sleeper sofa in the living room.
The spacious bathroom featured a
walk-in shower with rain shower head, jetted tub perfect for soaking after a
day experiencing the resort's activities, lighted make-up/shaving mirror,
hairdryer, and a plethora of amenities. Other suite features included a safe,
ample closets, and an iron and ironing board.
The suite had a balcony with round
table and four chairs, and while it was still cold the final days of winter, we
enjoyed sitting out there with our morning coffee and enjoying the spectacular
view of the mountains.
Wine Cellar
The resort has a changing calendar
of daily activities to appeal to diverse age and interests. One of the activities
we experienced was their Wine Tasting in their Award-Winning 45,000 bottle Wine
Cellar with Wine Director and Sommelier Suzanne Wagner. The informative and
very tasty wine tasting was a highlight of our stay. (Read about the Wine
Tasting in the Wine Cellar section.)
Crystal Tavern
Executive Chef Aishling Stevens is
the talent behind the resort's impressive restaurants, and we had an excellent
dinner at the Crystal Tavern, where a wall of windows overlooking the
mountains complemented the cuisine. We also had the pleasure of listening to renowned
guitarist/composer and Latin Grammy winner Hernan Romero perform in the
restaurant. A few of the highlights of our dinner included the Crispy
Octopus beautifully presented with beluga lentils, lardo, and heirloom
carrot, the fork-tender Short Rib of Beef presented on a bed of aligot
potatoes (mashed potatoes with cheese), cipollini onion, and baby carrot, and
the Apple Crumble served warm in a cast iron skillet accompanied by
three scoops of ice cream. (Read about our dinner at Crystal Tavern in the Restaurants section.)
Short Rib of Beef
After our leisurely dinner, the fire
pits on the Fire & Water Decks beckoned invitingly with the offer of marshmallow
roasting. Sitting by the firepit was both primal and romantic as we roasted our
marshmallows on long wooden skewers and then ate them while they were golden
brown, and warm and deliciously gooey.
Roasting the perfect mashmallow
We finished our perfect evening by
visiting their Biosphere Pool Complex where we swam in the indoor pool, then bravely
ventured outdoors to experience their heated pool brightly illuminated by a
full-moon sky. After a visit to their sauna, we returned to our suite delectably
relaxed and content.
Biosphere Pool Complex
The resort has activities to
inspire all ages and abilities according to the season. During our stay a few
of their many activities offered included horseback riding, hiking, yoga flow,
body pump, axe throwing, archery, paint + sip on canvas, mason jar paint + sip,
pony rides, laser clay shooting, wine tasting, and "glice" skating. In the
morning, we took a self-guided Nature Trail Hike, followed by "glice" skating.
