Popa Chubby – Live at G Bluey Juke Joint NYC was recorded live at G. Bluey’s Juke Joint in Long Island City, New York. The release was produced and mixed by Popa Chubby and released on the Gulf Coast Records Label.
The release was recorded over 2 nights at G. Bluey’s Juke Joint a "nightclub" recording studio where a select audience experienced a live recording session that resulted in 19 rockin’ blues tracks. Popa Chubby was backed by his all-star "Beast Band" while recording on his "native" New York turf after getting his start in the early ’90s in New York City’s Manny’s Car Wash. The release contains 11 original tracks written by Popa Chubby (T. Horowitz), and the lyrics on the original tracks are a perfect match to the instrumentation performed by the Beast Band.
Disc-1 has 9 tracks with 5 original tracks written by Popa Chubby (T. Horowitz). The lead track is the power ballad Motorcycle Mama, written by Neil Young, featuring Popa Chubby on vocals and the band flexing their Blues muscles. The band transitions to Another Ten Years Gone, a Popa Chubby original, that is a heavy Blues and hard Rock track that sends the message that the session is just warming up.
The track Hey Joe, written by Billy Roberts, is a tour-de-force 9+ minute track performed in the Jimi Hendrix format with powerful vocals and an assault on the guitar and base line to drive Popa’s interpretation. Disc-1 closes with a selection of 4 progressive original Rock and Blues jams written by Popa Chubby (T. Horowitz) including Dirty Lie, 69 Dollars, Dirty Diesel, and Grown Man Crying Blues . The lyrics, instrument transitions, and raw power displayed throughout the songs will beg for a repeat.
Disc-2 contains 10 tracks with 6 more original Popa Chubby tracks to keep the release at the correct boiling point. The road jams continue with the powerful original tracks It’s A Mighty Hard Road, featuring sizzling guitar work and a hard diving drum complement, I Don’t Want Nobody featuring finger lickin’ guitar and keyboard elements and fun lyrics, Embee’s Song a poignant and beautiful love song that plucks at the heart strings with catchy lyrics and embracing guitar and keyboard work.
Other original tracks include I Can’t See The Light Of Day, Steel Horse Serenade, and Sweat. Cover tracks include Hallelujah, Heart Attack and Vine, and Nobody Wants You When Your Down And Out. The release closes with a mix of the Rolling Stones classic Sympathy For The Devil with Chubby’s original Chubby’s Story for a reflective 10+ minute track of Chubby’s life in music – Sympathy For The Devil/Chubby’s Song. For the long drive when you need some energy or when you are relaxing, reflecting and drifting, this is a Jamming Rockin’ Blues release that will be there for you.
