The Dos Almas Restaurant at Hotel Villa Marquis, a member of Meliá Collection, in Paris, France features a delightful “fusion between Spanish generosity and French elegance.” We had dinner at the restaurant twice during our trip, once on our first night in Paris, on a Friday in October, where a two-piece band provided a romantic backdrop of music to complement the food, and again on a Friday night on our return from visiting the Burgundy region in November 2024. On both occasions our dining experiences were wonderful. Bon Appetit!
The restaurant’s name, Dos Almas, means two souls, which reflects the Meliá Spanish culture and style and the French culture and location. Crimson velvet banquettes line the walls and flank bare wood tables, and although listed on their website as having a casual dress code, the food was stylishly dressed to attract the senses. Our waiter began our dining experience with an Amuse Bouche of a very tasty Leek Soup garnished with a beet micro green and served in a shot glass on a red saucer. Creamy and delicious, the Leek Soup was a lovely introduction to the style of the kitchen.
We continued with two of their main courses, Octopus presented with saffron rice with seafood, and cuttlefish ink tuille, and Salmon presented as a plancha smoked salmon steak, with Flemish-style green and white asparagus, and a potato waffle.
The Octopus was gorgeous, flavorful, and dramatically and artistically presented on a bed of colorful and flavorful saffron rice. The Salmon was tender and perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with micro beet greens scattered over the top, however it was the sauce that tied all the elements together in a delectable package. Also interesting was the waffle made from potatoes, which was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. We will need to try making potato waffles at home, they were that good!
We paired our dinner with a bottle of Château Lancyre, Coste D’ Aleyrac, Pic Saint-Loop, AOP, France, 2022, 14% alcohol, made with a mélange of Syrah (50%), Grenache (40%) and Carignan (10%). The color was engaging, a deep, dark red with an aromatic nose of red berries and pepper notes. On the palate the flavors developed with long velvety tannins and easily complemented both of our main courses.
Our second visit to the restaurant was also on a Friday evening, this time on the first of November 2024, after our return from visiting Burgundy. The restaurant was enlivened once again with music, this time a different singer accompanied by a guitarist, also particularly good.
Looking for lighter fare after spending the day traveling, we shared a plate of Patatas Bravas, and Scallops snacked, artichoke mousse with smoked paprika, and black olive powder. The potatoes arrived in a large, deep bowl dusted with paprika that contrasted nicely with the ivory bowl. The potatoes were decadently crispy and enhanced with the addition of two sauces. The Scallops were also well prepared with a seared, golden crust, nestled against a sensuously creamy artichoke mousse, and garnished with micro green sprouts.
During our stay, we also enjoyed starting our day in the attractive restaurant where a bounty of crispy French breads, buttery, flaky croissants, pain au chocolat, a selection of artisan pastries, and a sumptuous breakfast buffet awaited with enough of a selection to appeal to diverse palates. The Breakfast menu also included a delectable selection of a la carte items, including Eggs Benedict and Avocado Toast, which we also enjoyed.
Until next time, Bon Appetit!
