If you have a love hate relationship with your job, 9 to 5 the Musical is the perfect way to ease into the weekend at Music Theatre of Connecticut (MTC) in Norwalk, Connecticut. Based on the hilarious 1980s film, 9 to 5, which featured Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman, the musical version has music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book adapted by Patricia Resnick. Directed by Amy Griffin, 9 to 5 the Musical stars an impressive cast of Scott Ahearn, Hannah Bonnet, Joe Cassidy, Elissa Demaria, Emma Kops, Gina Lamparella, Christian Libonati, Robin Lounsbury, Matt Mancuso, Alyssa McDonald, Tyler Brian Miranda, and Lucy Moon. 9 to 5 The Musical runs until May 3, 2026.

Hannah Bonnett (Doralee), Joe Cassidy (Hart), Gina Lamparella (Violet), Elissa Demaria (Judy) – 9 to 5
We saw 9 to 5 the Musical on Preview Night, Friday, April 17, 2026. The musical is based on the 1980s film that starred Dolly Parton as Doralee, Jane Fonda as Judy, Lily Tomlin as Violet, and Dabney Coleman as Hart. Set in 1979, 9 to 5 the Musical premiered in Los Angeles in September 2008, and opened on Broadway in April 2009. It went on to receive 15 Drama Desk Award Nominations and 4 Tony Award nominations.

Robin Lounsbury (Roz) – 9 to 5
The plot centers around the plight and mistreatment of the women employees by their lecherous boss, Hart played by Joe Cassidy. Violet is a widow with a teenage son played by Broadway veteran Gina Lamparella, Doralee played by Hannah Bonnett is a sassy, sexy, southern, married country girl whom Hart lusts for and the other employees gossip about, Judy is a newly divorced newbie to the workforce who arrives with no skills and no experience, but needs to work, played by Elissa Demaria, and Roz, the office gossip and snitch, who lusts after Hart, played by Robin Lounsbury.

Emma Kops (Maria), Alyssa McDonald (Kathy) – 9 to 5
Rounding out the cast is Scott Ahearn who plays Dwayne, Doralee’s husband, and also plays Mr. Tinsworthy, Matt Mancuso plays Joe, the assistant accountant who wants to date Violet, Christian Libonati plays Dick, Judy’s ex-husband who left her for his young secretary, Tyler Brian Miranda plays Josh, Violet’s teenage son, Lucy Moon plays Margaret, who drinks to get her through the long and boring office day, and also plays Missy, Hart’s wife, Emma Kops, plays Maria, one of the office workers, and Alyssa McDonald, plays Kathy, another young office worker.

Scott Ahearn (Mr. Tinsworthy), Joe Cassidy (Hart) – 9 to 5
Mix in office politics, jealousy, gossip, salary inequality, sexual harassment, and overall mistreatment of the staff where there is no affirmative action, and eventually there will be a revolt when the women say enough is enough and decide to band together and take matters into their own hands. The result is a hilarious, wacky, and fanciful dream-like sequence of events with some toe-tapping music to accompany them. As Shakespeare wrote, “All’s Well That Ends Well.”

Mat Mancuso (Joe) – 9 to 5
If you need a little weekend musical therapy, the Music Theatre of Connecticut’s production of 9 to 5 the Musical is the perfect segue. The musical has a runtime of 2.5 hours including a 15-minute intermission and runs until May 3, 2026.

Elissa Demaria (Judy), Christian Libonati (Dick) – 9 to 5
Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!
