Kirk Fletcher – Keep On Pushing was Engineered by Glenn Nashida, Alex Hall, and Joe McMahon, Produced by Kirk Fletcher and JD Simo, and released on the VizzTone label. Keep On Pushing is 10 tracks crossing the Blues genre as Kirk shows his musicianship by seamlessly bringing different flavors of Blues to each song. Keep on pushing was a personal message to Kirk who suffered a stroke just a couple of years ago. Kirk noted, “I’m grateful to share this album with you.” This marks his 8th album release.
Keep On Pushing opens with the slow track, It’s Love Baby, written by Ted Jarett, a song that brings back the feel of the 60s with Kirk’s compelling guitar work and great vocals that will have you swaying your hips and getting ready to dance. The track, Just A Dream, written by Big Bill Broonzy, is another slow paced Blues track that brings in down and dirty Blues punctuated by Kirk’s finger work.
The track, I’m Gonna Dig Myself A Hole, written by Arthur Crudup, picks up the pace as the band opens up and gets into a swing mode with a punchy baseline complementing the vocals and a catchy guitar bridge solo. Transitioning the sound, the release flows to the track, Every Dog Has Its Day, written by Edward Bocage, a funky drum driven track that pushes the song along with cut ins of outstanding guitar solos.
The track, Lost Love, written by Percy Mayfield, lets the instruments do the talking along with heartfelt vocals from Kirk. This is a poignant track that is Blues at its best. Croke, written by Kirk Fletcher, is Kirk showing his mastery of the Axe as he wields it in flawless fashion blazing incredible West Coast Jump Blues. The title track, Keep On Pushing, written by Kirk Fletcher, brings together different elements of Blues presented through Kirk’s fingers and vocals.
The track, Think Twice Before You Speak, written by Al K. Smith, brings the lyrics to the forefront, “…Let your conscious be your guide,….think twice before you speak…so when your love is seen with some one else…think twice before you speak…” The release closes with the tracks, Here In The Dark, written by Bernard Anders, a deep down heavy Blues track, and the closing track, Blues For Robert Nighthawk, an instrumental Delta / Chicago Blues track infused with scintillating slide guitar work from JD Simo.
