The Southern Food & Beverage Museum: SoFAB COOKBOOK – Recipes From The Modern South by Elizabeth M. Williams & Maddie Hayes celebrates not only the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Southern Food & Beverage Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2004, but also celebrates the food and drink of the American South. This delightful and oh so tasty debut cookbook takes readers’ palates on a trip across the American South featuring recipes from Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Cheers and Bon Appetit!

Published in June 2024 by LSU Press, The Southern Food & Beverage Museum: SoFAB COOKBOOK by Elizabeth M. Williams & Maddie Hayes, 272-page hardcover cookbook celebrates Southern cuisine and is a treasure trove of 140 wonderful recipes. However, it is much more than a compilation of delicious recipes, it is the stories about the states, their culture, and the recipes that compel you to turn the page and read more. From the Foreword written by New Orleans restauranteur Dickie Brennan to the recipes themselves, The Southern Food & Beverage Museum: SoFAB Cookbook by Elizabeth M. Williams & Maddie Hayes makes a perfect gift for yourself or for your favorite foodie.

A sampling of a few of our favorite recipes, state by state, from The Southern Food & Beverage Museum: SoFAB COOKBOOK by Elizabeth M. Williams & Maddie Hayes: from Alabama: Kumquat Marmalade; from Arkansas: Fried Pickles; from the District of Columbia: Presidential Barbecue Sauce (United States 34th President, Dwight D. Eisenhower); from Florida: Conch Fritters and Aioli; from Georgia: Old-Fashioned Peach Ice Cream; and from Kentucky: a savory Corn Pudding with bacon in it.

The Louisiana recipes for Gumbo, Bananas Foster, SoFAB Sazerac, and Café Brûlot had our taste buds dancing with wonderful memories of our trips to New Orleans. From the state of Maryland, we love the recipe for Crab Cake Benedict with Corn & Tomato Relish: from Mississippi: the Fried Catfish with Comeback Sauce; from North Carolina: Hibiscus Tea; from Oklahoma: Coconut Cream Pie; from South Carolina, its famous She-Crab Soup and Carolina Gold Sauce; from Tennessee: Competition Baby Back Ribs; from Texas: Chili: from Virginia: Spicy Peanut Butter Soup; and from West Virginia: their Appalachian Punch.

The cookbook has memorable cocktail recipes, appetizers, snacks, main courses, and being that it’s a cookbook featuring Southern cooking, there are also wonderful dessert recipes. As they say in New Orleans, this cookbook is a “lagniappe” (a special gift). So, Laissez les bon temps roulez (let the good times roll) as you sit back with a Sazerac, Sweet Tea, or Hibiscus Tea in hand, as you peruse this cookbook and try to figure out which recipe you will want to try first!
