The Elemis Spa at Mohegan Sun Hotel in Uncasville, Connecticut is an attractive, relaxing oasis where you can escape everyday reality for a few hours, where the spa menu features a diverse selection of interesting treatments, and is where pampering begins.
We first became acquainted with the line of Elemis Spas when we took a Celebrity Cruise on the cruise ship, Eclipse, where we experienced, and vastly enjoyed the AquaSpa by Elemis. When we saw that there was an Elemis Spa at Mohegan Sun Hotel, we wanted to experience one of their land-based Spas.
The impressive 22,000 square foot Elemis Spa at Mohegan Sun features 15 Spa-therapy rooms, 2 exotic spa suites, 1 spa-therapy room for couples, separate men's and women's relaxation lounges, as well as separate men's and women's whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms. In addition, there is a complete fitness center and exercise studio, as well as a full-service hair and nail salon.
Welcome to Elemis at Mohegan Sun
Their spa menu features intriguing facial therapies, a special line of dedicated Skin Intelligence for Men treatments, and an interesting selection of massages including a "Nurturing Massage for Mother-to-Be." There are detox therapies, nourishing therapies, and spa ceremonies for guests seeking a longer spa experience. The beauty salon features a full menu of hair and scalp rituals, hand and nail treatments, special pedicures, waxing services, eyelash extensions, haircuts, up-dos, highlighting and color services, make-up application, as well as style/blow dry services.
Wanting to maximize our spa experience, we arrived 45 minutes before our scheduled spa appointments to partake of a session in our respective saunas where the temperature was set between 170 and 180 degrees. After a shower to cool down, we experienced a session in the steam rooms where the temperature was set between 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit, followed by a soak in the whirlpools. By the time we reached the comfortable relaxation rooms, we were mentally and physically relaxed and ready for our therapists to whisk us away for our massages.
Whirlpool to Soak and Relax before Treatment
Debra: Although all of the treatments held their own appeal, I decided on the Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow, which was a 25-minute treatment, combined with a 25-minute back massage, and is one of their nourishing therapies, described as "exotic exfoliation ritual invigorates and brings vitality to your body. After light body brushing, warm oil is drizzled luxuriously all over the body, before our Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow is applied. Skin is deeply cleansed, polished, and softened to perfection."
I absolutely loved this sensory driven 25-minute treatment, which began by my therapist lightly dry brushing my body with a cactus bristle brush to wake up my circulation, which resulted in my skin slightly tingling. Next, there was the application of warm oil, which added a new element to the experience, followed by a scrub with the Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow. The combination of the aromatics of the lime and ginger, coupled with the brushing, and the oil and salt scrub, left my senses satisfied and my body feeling relaxed. After a quick shower to remove the salt, I returned to the comfort of the heated massage bed for the last part of my treatment, a 25-minute back massage. The result was pure indulgent spa pleasure, an experience that I look forward to experiencing again.
After my treatment, I returned to the relaxation room where inviting leather sofas and matching ottomans beckoned, to enjoy a bottle of juice, eat a cup of trail mix, and savor my spa experience at Elemis Spa at Mohegan Sun. I left the Spa feeling relaxed, and yes, nourished, because taking care of our bodies is an important combatant against aging and everyday stresses.
Edward: I opted for the 50-minute Swedish massage described in the Elemis Spa treatment menu as, "The classical European technique of manipulating muscles with aromatic massage oils is both relaxing and invigorating. While providing tonic for the soul, this massage can help improve the unction of the circulatory, lymphatic, muscular and nervous systems." With a description like that, how could I go wrong, especially since I had experienced this type of massage at many spas and have always found it to be very beneficial.
I am a fan of the European technique applied in a Swedish massage, which allows different pressures to be applied to key areas, and along with the aromatic massage oils, I know that my muscles will be in excellent shape. My key areas of need are the lower neck and upper shoulder muscles, which knot up due to my extensive time on a computer. Jamie, my massage therapist, led me to the well-appointed treatment room where relaxing music was playing in the background.

I made sure that I made note of my neck and shoulder muscles before giving way to Jamie's hands and arms as she worked out my tight muscles like a rolling pin smoothes out dough. I asked her to increase the pressure, and it seems that no matter how hard a masseuse applies pressure, I tend to drift off to sleep needing to be lightly shaken to rollover on my back for the final steps of the massage.
With my massage complete, I was ready for a bit more relaxation in the whirlpool before showering and resting in the relaxation room with a crisp apple and some cold water. I was now ready to win big at Mohegan Sun, or at least feel good as I held, called, rolled the dice, or pulled a few slot machine arms.
