Litchfield Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon lovers are going to love the award-winning Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon Whiskey handcrafted in small batches in Litchfield, Connecticut where their motto is "The Spirit of Hard Work" and the result is pure excellence. Made from a delectable blend of locally grown corn, rye, and barley, Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon Whiskey celebrates the best of Connecticut. Known for their exceptional bourbons, in addition to their Straight Bourbon, Litchfield Distillery also handcrafts a Maple Bourbon, a Vanilla Bourbon, and a Port Cask Finish Bourbon, all of which are very tasty.

Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon WhiskeyProduct Information: Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon Whiskey is made from a delectable blend of locally grown corn, rye, and barley. This multi-award-winning bourbon is traditionally aged in #4 Charred Barrels. It is 46% alcohol by volume (92 proof), and each bottle proudly bears its handwritten bottle and batch numbers on the front of the bottle. Our bottle number was 191, signed JC, Batch 16. Litchfield Distillery Bourbon retails for $49.95 for a 750 ml bottle. Litchfield Distillery Bourbon is presented in a beautifully designed tall bottle with a label proudly bearing their logo of a batcher rolling a barrel and a red wax covered stopper.

Bottle notes"One day we looked around at our beautiful rolling hills and said, "Boy, wish we could bottle this."  So we did. We take the best our local farmers have to offer and craft fine spirits, one batch at a time. They do the growing. We do the batching. And you get a share in this luscious little section of Connecticut called Litchfield County."

Tasting Notes: The color is a rich, burnished amber color. The nose has light sweet notes of honey, vanilla, butterscotch, and cocoa. On the palate, it has slight pepper notes, a rich mouthfeel with balanced flavors and a lusciously long finish.

This bourbon is an outstanding sipping bourbon that is very nice with a little water to open up its notes or used in cocktail or culinary recipes.

Luxury Experience was "In the kitchen and behind the bar®" creating some incredibly special handcrafted cocktail and culinary recipes to tempt your palate and inspire your own creations using Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon.

Cocktail Recipes

Luxury Experience - B4 & After - photo by Luxury Experience

Luxury Experience - B4 & After is a play on the 4 B ingredients used - Litchfield Distillery Bourbon, Benedictine, Beef Bouillon and Bacon! We infused the bourbon with cooked bacon, then removed the bacon and re-baked it in the oven to dry it out. We then coated half of the bacon with maple syrup and baked it to candy the bacon. The plain bacon was finely ground in a small grinder. We half rimmed the rocks glass with maple syrup then dipped the rim into the ground bacon. We finished this very tasty cocktail by balancing candied bacon on the rim. Now you know the story behind the name of the cocktail, Luxury Experience - B4 & After.

Method for the Infused Bourbon: Cook bacon between paper towels in microwave until bacon is crisp. Remove from microwave and pat dry with new paper towel. Add bacon to a glass jar, add the Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon, cover and refrigerate for several days.

Leaving nothing to waste, remove the bacon from the infused bourbon. Place the bacon on a parchment covered baking sheet. Place in a 250-degree Fahrenheit (121-degrees Celsius) oven. Bake until bacon is very dry. Remove baking sheet from oven. Remove half of the bacon and let cool on baking sheet.

Brush remaining bacon with maple syrup on both sides and return to baking sheet to the oven to candy the bacon. Bake until bacon is dry and glazed. Remove from oven and let cool.

Beef Bouillon

Method for the Beef Bouillon: Bring water to a boil, add the beef bouillon cube, and let dissolve. Let cool, then refrigerate until ready to use.

Method for the Maple Syrup and Bacon Rim: Pulverize the bacon in a small chopper. Half rim a rocks glass with maple syrup (Litchfield Distillery produces a Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup), then dip in the pulverized bacon. Set aside and create the cocktail.

Method for the Cocktail: In a mixing glass, add the bacon infused Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon, Benedictine, and beef bouillon and stir well to combine. Fill your maple syrup and bacon half-rimmed rocks glass with ice, pour cocktail over ice. Garnish with 2 small pieces of the glazed bacon.

This cocktail features a fresh peach muddled with sugar and fresh mint, combined with Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon, Grand Marnier Cognac, and fresh lime juice. The result is the fresh taste of summer. Keeping with our shop local focus, we used locally grown Connecticut peaches from Plasko's Farm at the Greenwich Farmers Market

Scald the milk and Half & Half in a medium saucepan. With the food processor running, add 1 large spoon of the hot milk to the slurry. This step is to temper the egg yolks so that they do not curdle. Add another spoon, blend, and continue to slowly add the rest of the scalded milk to the slurry.

Pour the hot milk and slurry back into the saucepan and cook 2 more minutes or until the cream thickens. Remove the pastry cream from the saucepan and cool it in a large bowl. Cover the pastry cream with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator until ready to use. Can be made a day ahead.

Method for the Peaches: Small dice a large, ripe peach. Heat a sauté pan, add 1 teaspoon butter, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and sauté peaches until almost tender. Carefully add the bourbon and flambe or simply let it cook without flambéing. Note: Use care when flambéing. Do not use a backdraft on the stove or have a fan on. Let peaches cool.

Method for the Glazed Pecans:

1

Cup

Toasted Pecans, chopped

2

Tablespoons

Sugar

2

Tablespoons

Water

Method: Heat a sauté pan, add the pecans, sugar, and water, and stir to coat the pecans. Sauté until pecans are dry and coated with the sugar glaze. Remove from the pan and let cool on parchment paper.

Presentation: Spoon or pipe the bourbon pastry cream into the bottom of each glass, add a spoon of peaches, glazed pecans, another layer of the bourbon pastry cream, a spoon of blueberries and crushed granola. Repeat. Finish with the bourbon pastry cream, glazed pecans, and garnish with an edible flower or fresh mint if desired.

Note: If you do not have a pastry bag, you can use a Ziplock plastic bag. Simply add the pastry cream to the plastic bag, press the pastry cream to the corner of the bag, and zip. Use a scissor to cut a small tip off the bag, then pipe the pastry cream into the glasses or bowls.

Cacao Market by MarieBelle, 70% Dark Chocolate Honduran Cacao

Method for the Infused Raisins: In a glass jar, add the raisins and 1 ounce of the Litchfield Distillery Straight Bourbon. Cover jar and let sit for a few days so raisins can soak up the bourbon then follow the method below to make the balls.

Method for the LDB Bourbon Balls: Add all ingredients to a food processor and process until you create a smooth dough. Use the small end of a melon baller, lightly spray the tool with vegetable oil so the dough does not stick. Scoop out balls, roll into balls if needed. (You can also use a teaspoon and then roll the dough into balls.)

Once all the dough is rolled into balls, roll half of them in crushed peanuts.

Roll the remaining balls in some confectionary sugar. Melt the dark chocolate in a bowl in the microwave (use care to not burn the chocolate). Coat the balls in dark chocolate and let dry on parchment paper. Store the LDB Bourbon Balls in a covered container until ready to serve. For best results, let the balls rest for a few days.

We hope that you enjoy trying Luxury Experience's cocktail and culinary recipes, and that they inspire you to create your own recipes. Cheers!
