Fifth State Gin is an
American premium gin "made with pride in the
great state of Connecticut." Owned by Master Distiller Robert
Schulten and his wife Bridget Schulten, Fifth State
Distillery has been handcrafting their line of award-winning
spirits since 2016. Gin is a very diverse and unique spirit as the
taste is based on the blend of botanicals and spices used. While juniper is
always an ingredient, some gins have a stronger juniper flavor profile, while
others are softer on the palate. Like chefs in a kitchen, each master distiller
has their own preference. Master Distiller Rob Schulten uses juniper,
coriander, cinnamon quills, angelica root, lemon peel, and green pod cardamom
for his award-winning Fifth State Gin, and it is delicious.

Tasting Notes: This
3-time silver medalist is column distilled and bottled at 94 proof (47% alcohol
by volume). The gin has a very aromatic nose with floral and herbal notes, with
juniper dominant on the palate that leads to coriander, cardamon, lemon, and
angelica, for a very pleasing finish.
Fifth State Gin is lovely to keep
in the refrigerator and serve neat or over ice and is an admirable companion in
a variety of cocktail and culinary recipes.

a traditional Gin and Tonic (G & T) and gives it some extra pizzaz with the
addition of Goya Tamarind juice and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

Method: Add the Fifth State
Gin, tamarind juice, tonic, and squeeze of lime to a mixing glass. Stir to
combine. Pour into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Luxury Experience - Summer Sangria
made with Fifth State Gin, Vento Di Mare Certified Organic Pinot Grigio, fresh
pineapple, lime, and lemon juice, and homemade mint syrup tastes like liquid
summer in a glass. Add fresh strawberries and cut pineapple to a large pitcher
and chill.

Method: Mix all ingredients
except fruit in a large pitcher. Add fruit. Chill for at least 1-hour prior to
serving.

Method for the Dill Simple
Syrup: Add water, sugar, and mint to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and
boil until the liquid is clear and sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let
cool. Store in a covered jar in the refrigerator until ready to serve. May be
made 1- week ahead. Simple syrup is a great addition to cocktails, to sweeten
iced tea or lemonade, brush on cake layers before frosting, and can also be
used in dressings or marinades.
The Culinary Recipe
Luxury Experience - Fresh Green
Pea Soup with Cappuccino Foam is made from fresh or frozen petite peas to
retain a bright green color. Fifth State Gin, leeks, lemon juice, and chicken
bouillon or chicken stock make this a favorite and easy recipe. Serve chilled
for a perfect warm weather starter, or hot during colder months. We love to
serve the soup in demi-tasse cups as an amuse bouche or appetizer for parties.

Pea Soup with Cappuccino Foam

Method for the Soup: Add
the butter to a large pot, turn heat to low to melt butter. Add the leeks, cover,
turn heat to medium, and sweat until the leeks are translucent. Add the peas
and saute for 2 minutes, add chicken bouillon or stock and cook until peas are tender
but not mushy. Pour the mixture into a blender and blend until smooth. Add the
lemon juice and Fifth State Gin. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Strain
and discard solids. Serve chilled or warm. May be made a few hours ahead to let
flavors meld.
Method for Cappuccino Foam:
Add 2% milk to a frother and process until foamy.
Presentation: Pour soup
into demi-tasse cups, top with the foam, and garnish with lemon zest.
