Where
to Stay - Southampton Inn

Southampton Inn
We stayed at
the luxurious 90-room Southampton
Inn in the beginning of March 2020. Nestled on 5 stunning acres in the
heart of Southampton within walking distance of a movie theater, boutique
shops, upscale restaurants, museums, cultural and historical venues, owner Dede
Gotthelf and her exceptional team have created a charming and comfortable respite
in The Hamptons.

Guestroom
Bells and
whistles include sumptuous guestrooms with Tempur-Pedic® beds and a plethora of
amenities including their excellent restaurant Claude's, where we had a
wonderful dinner, a large outdoor swimming pool, outdoor tennis and
shuffleboard courts, croquet on the lawn, games room, bicycles, and a library
filled with books and games for guests' enjoyment. Summertime guests will especially
enjoy the complimentary shuttle to nearby Cooper's Beach. A lovely inn with impeccable
service, a desirous location, and wonderful amenities make the Southampton Inn
a repeat favorite of guests.

Things
to Do in Southampton
Pelletreau
Silver Shop

Pelletreau Silver Shop
Talk about a
Luxury Experience! We had the incredible experience of learning the art of
handcrafting silver jewelry by taking a class with Master Jeweler Eric Messin
in the historic 1686 Pelletreau Silver Shop, offered in conjunction with
the Southampton
History Museum. Interesting to note is that the Pelletreau Silver Shop
is the "oldest continuously open trade shop in the Americas," so we felt as if
we were continuing the exquisite tradition of silver craftsmanship.

Adventure Kids - Debra C. Argen and Edward F. Nesta
During our
2-hour class we learned how to craft exceptionally beautiful stud earrings. Under
Eric's careful tutelage we learned the art and proper techniques of cutting, filing,
heating, shaping, acid washing, and polishing the silver earrings to create
jewelry that made us proud to bring home and (for Debra) to wear.

Eric Messin and Edward F. Nesta
The Pelletreau
Silver Shop is open year-round from Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 am
until 4:00 pm. There is no admission fee. Classes are offered as a single
class, four classes, or eight classes.

Rogers
Mansion

Rogers Mansion
We took a
step back in time to the Gilded Age by visiting the sumptuous 20-room Rogers Mansion
built in 1843 for whaling captain Albert Rogers during their Candlelight Tour
package which began with a candlelight tour of the mansion followed
by a lovely dinner at Claude's restaurant at the Southampton Inn.

1880s Formal Afternoon Dress
Downton Abbey
followers would love the collection of dresses, gowns, and elaborate hats in
the collection. Of particular interest was the opportunity to see a collection
of lavish ball gowns from their exhibit "High Style in the Gilded Age"
Southampton 1870-1930" worn by women of Southampton. One of the exceptional fashions
on display was an 1880s teal green formal afternoon dress with bustle and intricate
beading detail on the bodice and on the sleeves.

Rose Silk Moiré Evening Gown
Also, of
interest was a rose silk moiré evening gown (1900-1915) that
featured a high collar, puffed sleeves with exquisite detail of aubergine velvet
on the collar, bodice, and lower sleeves, worn with a black hat with ostrich
plumes. Another wonderful example of the fashions of the day included a full-length
formal dress from 1910, which featured a V-neck, elbow-length sleeves, embellished
with elaborate beading and black lace over aubergine silk, accessorized with a
large rose.
Rogers
Mansion is open March through December from Wednesday through Saturday from
11:00 am until 4:00 pm. Admission: Adults: $5, free for children under 17 and
members.

Voyage, which speaks to the exceptional quality of what SAC offers.
During this
visit, we experienced, Takeover! 2020: Artists in Residence conceived
and curated by Amy Kirwin, where we had the opportunity to watch exceptional
artists in residence creating art in a variety of art forms at SAC. Artists
included Jodi Bentivegna, Michael Butler, Isadoro Capararo, Franco Cuttica, Esly
Escobar, Melinda Hackett, Erica-Lynn Huberty, Dinah Maxwell Smith, Miles
Partington, and Kerry Sharkey-Miller.

Where
to Dine in Southampton
Claude's
Restaurant at Southampton Inn

Claude's Restaurant at Southampton Inn
Claude's
restaurant at the Southampton
Inn has a glamourous ivory piano for live music on the weekends, tables
are nautically dressed in dark blue linens and white napkins, and owner Dede
Gotthelf's beautiful paintings grace the walls. The ambience is at once
comfortable and the epitome of Hamptons chic.

Eggplant Rollatini
We had a
lovely dinner at the restaurant where two of the many highlights included the Eggplant
Rollatini, which was thinly sliced eggplant, lightly breaded, covered in
ricotta, herbs and spinach, rolled and baked in a rich tomato sauce, and garnished
with microgreens, and the Double Cut Veal Chop topped with
truffle butter, and accompanied by rosemary roasted potatoes, sautéed brussels
sprouts, haricot verts, carrots, yellow squash, and zucchini. Delectable
cuisine, excellent service, and its Hamptons chic ambience made dinner at
Claude's a memorable experience.

Double Cut Veal Chop
Claude's is
open for Breakfast Monday through Saturday, Dinner on Thursday, Friday, and
Saturday, and they serve their Signature Brunch on Sundays. Start celebrating
the weekend with their Friday Happy Hour with live music, and half-priced

75 Main
in Southampton

75 Main in Southampton
We spent a
delightful Sunday afternoon having lunch at 75 Main. Located in the heart of Southampton, owner
Zach Erdem's restaurant has been a Hamptons favorite among locals and visitors
since it opened in 2010. Creative cocktails and a diverse Brunch/Lunch menu
provided us with very tasty options. Forgoing the usual Brunch cocktails of a
Mimosa or a Bloody Mary, we opted for their Old & Spicy BB cocktail made
with Bulleit Bourbon, Canton Ginger Liqueur, Aperol, lime juice, and jalapeno
syrup, which was perfectly balanced with a nice level of spice without being
overpowering.

Old & Spicy BB Cocktails
Our lunch
selection included one of their specials, Roast Beef Hash, which was
fork tender pieces of beef folded into roasted potatoes, carrots, onions, and
peppers, topped with 2 poached eggs, and served with a Hollandaise sauce.
Appealing to the eye as well as the palate, the Beef Hash was hearty and rich
in flavor. For our other entrée, we had the Traditional Maine Lobster Roll,
which was a generous amount of succulently sweet lobster meat tossed with light
mayonnaise and celery and nestled in a brioche pull-apart toasted roll. Paired
with a side order of Truffle Parmesan Fries, it would be worth another
trip to Southampton to enjoy them again.

Bringing
Home the Hamptons
Whenever we
visit the Hamptons, we always wish we could bring its essence back with us to
recreate the island spirit at home. On this trip, we found two excellent female-founded
family companies with excellent, luxury products, Hamptons Handpoured
candles and Plain-T
high-quality teas.
Hamptons
Handpoured
Hamptons
native Brittany Torres founded her company Hamptons
Handpoured in 2015. She specializes in hand pouring candles made with
love from 100% American grown natural soy and high-quality, plant-based
fragrance oils, with cotton wicks, zero additives, that are phthalate free,
vegan, and have 40-hour burn time.

Brittany Torres - Hamptons Handpoured
With candles
representing various towns in the Hamptons, each with their own unique scents,
you can truly bring home the experience of your favorite place with Brittany's inspired
collection of Hamptons Handpoured candles. Love East Hampton? Hamptons
Handpoured East Hampton candle's special scent is a blend of cashmere, fig, and
strawberry. Is Southampton more your style? The Southampton candle has the
essence of cotton, gardenia, and white tea. So many wonderful towns, scents,
and memories comprise The Hamptons, and Hamptons Handpoured has deftly captured
the essence of each of them. The candles make a perfect gift for yourself or for
a special someone, or to remember a very memorable trip. Hamptons Handpoured
candles are available for purchase online as well as at upscale retail shops
located throughout the Hamptons.

Plain-T and
The T Loft
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The
T Loft and learning about Plain-T
high-quality teas created by Tathiana Teixeira and her husband Alessandro
Teixeira. Meeting with Tathiana Teixeira at The T Loft in Southampton, New
York was like getting a PhD in tea! Passionate about her high-quality tea
products, she shared her vast tea knowledge and told us about their diverse tea
line of 85 teas. There is a tea for every palate and Tathiana is a perfect tea
sommelier to find the right tea for you.

Alex and Tathiana Teixeira - Plain-T
We learned many interesting facts
about tea during our tea experience. Black, Oolong, Green, White, and Pu-erh Tea
all come from the same plant species, the Camellia Sinensis, what makes them
different is the oxidation process. With White Tea, they only pick 2 leaves and
can only pick the leaves at a special time of the year. Green Tea has many
health benefits, however did you know that you can reuse green tea for a second
or third time and still receive many health benefits only with reduced caffeine
with each use? Reduced caffeine with each subsequent "steeping" make it a
perfect beverage to consume all day. Did you know that coffee and tea do not
have the same amount of caffeine? A 6-8-ounce cup of coffee has 200 mg of
caffeine whereas black tea has 100 mg, oolong has 50 mg, green has 30 mg,
and white has 10 mg. Also, with oolong, green, and white you can steep 2-3
times and still receive health benefits with lower levels of caffeine. Learning
about their diverse teas and their healthful benefits was a delectable
eye-opening and very tasty experience.
While you may not be able to travel to Southampton to experience
Plain-T and The T Loft, you can purchase their products online and also
participate in their "Virtual
Pop Up's at the T LOFT" where the focus is on Health - Wellness -
Nutrition - Inspiration, provided by invited special guests who cover a
range of subjects to foster learning and inspiration.
