Be prepared to be pampered at Skaná Spa at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. The attractive 33,000 square foot destination Spa opened in 2006 has 12 treatment rooms, a VIP Suite, full-service salon, therapeutic mineral pool, full locker room facilities with quiet room, including separate sauna, steam rooms, and whirlpools for men and women. The name Skaná is from the Oneida word for "peace" and the décor incorporates American Indian design influences, with an emphasis on the Oneida’s belief in the balance of good health, harmony with nature, and tranquility within.
We experienced Skaná Spa at Turning Stone Resort Casino in October 2014, and we were impressed with their diverse Spa menu which includes massages, body treatments, facials, balancing harmonies, prenatal pampering for the mother-to-be, treatments for two, and their special Balancing Waters Ritual. In addition to their Spa menu, their full-service salon menu includes hair services, waxing services, nail services, and make-up services including make-up for the bride for that special important day.

Making time in one’s life for Spa experiences is an essential key to maintaining one’s health, as taking time for Spa treatments in our normally hectic lives requires us to slow down, relax, de-stress, and revitalize our bodies and minds.
(Debra): I arrived at the Spa 1-hour before my scheduled appointment for a facial to allow enough time to experience the Balancing Waters Ritual. "The Oneida people have lived in harmony with nature for hundreds of years. You are invited to enjoy the powers of water, an important life force according to Oneida teachings. The progressive steps taken in the Balancing Waters Ritual are designed to be relaxing, yet stimulating to the circulatory and central nervous system."
Waiting Room
The 40-50 minute Balancing Waters Ritual began by experiencing the Steam Room to increase circulation, encourage relaxation and remove toxins via perspiration. The next step was a Cool Shower to lower my body temperature and further increase circulation and vigor. The shower had an adjustable pull-down double showerhead and multiple side jets along the walls and was so relaxing I wanted to bring it home with me. I followed the shower with a session in the Sauna to reduce muscle tension, assist relaxation, relieve respiratory congestion, and soothe the nervous system. Following another cool shower, I had a dip in the Mineral Whirlpool for its restorative, relaxation, and ability to elevate circulation while soothing the nervous system benefits. The last step in the ritual was relaxing in the soothing Relaxation Room before my next treatment began.
Treatment Room
I am a firm believer that your face is your best "fashion" statement, one that requires daily care and attention as well as facials throughout the year to keep your skin in prime condition. I indulged in the Skaná Signature Facial, 50-minutes of much-needed skin pampering. Their signature facial is customized to meet your basic skin care needs and includes a cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, treatment mask, and a relaxing scalp, neck, and shoulder massage. This treatment should come with a warning label, definitely wonderful and highly addictive.
(Edward): While Debra was experiencing her Spa treatments, I went off to experience the Skaná and Lodge Fitness Center with state-of-the-art StarTracTM cardio and strength equipment, swimming pool, and complete menu of indoor and outdoor fitness activities. I also made time for a steam, cool shower, and sauna, before our couples massage.

(Edward and Debra): Massages are also an important indulgence in our lives as we spend long hours sitting at computers, and the result shows in tension in our neck, shoulders and back muscles. For the last treatment of our Spa day, we experienced the Oneida Journey Couples Massage in the VIP Suite, where our therapists took us on a journey of relaxation through aromatherapy and massage techniques. The result was that we left the suite with our minds and bodies at ease, delighted refreshed, nourished, and hydrated; a delightful experience.

After our treatments our therapists lead us to the Relaxation Room and offered us a choice of delicious teas from the Native American Tea Company to complete the experience of gracious hospitality and well-being. The delicious teas included: Good Medicine – Help Yourself Naturally, a blend of spearmint leaf, blackberry leaf, wood betony, linden leaf and flower, rosemary, eucalyptus leaf, ginseng leaf, licorice root, and natural flavor, Chief’s Delight – Lead with Wisdom, a blend of strawberry leaf, myrtle leaf, blackberry leaf, rose hips, hibiscus flower, juniper berry, and natural flavor, Indian Love Tea -Share it with Someone You Love, a blend of blackberry leaf, sarsaparilla root, white oak bark, rose flower, ginseng root, muira puama, elecampane, angelica root, marjoram, licorice root, Missouri snake root, ginger root, damiana, and natural flavor, Victory Tea – Take Pride in Victory, a blend of wild cherry bark, hibiscus flower, rose hips, orange peel, spearmint leaf, lemon grass, and natural flavor, and Teepee Dreams – Take Time to Relax a blend of peppermint, chamomile, catnip, strawberry leaf, linden, passion flower, skullcap, licorice root, valerian root, and natural flavor.
