The attractive Bioterra Urban Health Spa located at the Hôtel Château Laurier, opened in July 2011, and we had the opportunity to experience the Spa during our stay at the hotel in August 2011. One of the first things that we noticed as we opened the door to the Spa was the lovely fragrance that gently perfumed the room. The second thing that we noticed was the professional and courteous staff that graciously welcomed us and explained the Spa’s many treatment options.
Bioterra Urban Health Spa Reception
The Bioterra Urban Health Spa is a full-service Spa that offers a diverse menu of packages and interesting treatments including relaxing or therapeutic massages, comforting massages, unique massage experiences, medical messages, balneotherapy, orthotherapy, body wraps, Bioterra body treatments, Bioterra facial skin treatments, Yonka facial skin care treatments, treatments designed especially for men, hand and foot treatments, and even a special Kids Spa program.
However, after learning about their "Boarding pass for Bora Bora," one of their unique massage experiences we knew that this was the massage for us. The concept behind the massage is to engage all of the senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste, to create a unique experience for their clientele.
Treatment Room
Our therapists guided us to separate well-appointed treatment rooms where we made ourselves comfortable on the massage tables laying face-down under the warm blankets with our heads positioned on the open pillow supports as we prepared ourselves for our virtual "take-off" to Bora Bora.
Like flight attendants explaining "take off" procedures to the passengers, our therapists explained our virtual flight process before they began our experience and then positioned our headphones which had soft island music playing to set the mood.
Female Massage
Unlike most massages where there is nothing for you to look at, and you generally close your eyes, for this experience, there were laptops positioned directly below the pillow supports playing a film of Bora Bora where we felt like we were there as we watched the stunning turquoise waves lapping against the white sandy beach, palm trees gently swaying in the breeze, the sun shining brightly, and not a care in the world that we had forgotten to apply sunscreen before venturing to the "beach."
Male Massage
Using aromatherapy to include the sense of smell, and lomi-lomi massage techniques for the sense of touch, our therapists took us on a 90-minute sensory journey that virtually whisked us away to an island paradise where everyday stresses dissolved as easily as sand through our fingers if we were actually sitting on the beach in Bora Bora.
At the completion of the massage, our therapists brought us to the relaxation room to gently bring us back to reality, tempered with the help of virgin Piña Coladas to engage the sense of taste, and complete our island experience.
The Bioterra Urban Health Spa may be accessed either from within the Hôtel Château Laurier or from the Spa entrance on Grande Allée Est, and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.
