Patrick Bradley - Intangible
Patrick Bradley – Intangible marks the third release combining the talents of keyboardist Patrick Bradley and Jeff Lorber, and fans of instrumental Fusion Jazz are going to love this 10-track release. Joined by an impressive list of musicians: Paul Jackson, Jr., Michael Thompson, Adam Hawley, Jimmy Haslip, Andrew Carney, Gary Novak, and David Mann, make this a release you will want to add to your collection.

Personnel: Patrick Bradley – piano, organ, Moog and arp synthesizers, Jeff Lorber – synth bass and additional keyboards, guitar (Find The Way), Paul Jackson, Jr. – guitar and solo (Tailwind), Michael Thompson – guitar (On Tap, Winds Of Change, Destiny), Adam Hawley – guitar (Dear Friend, Funky Greens, Intangible, Newport Coast) and rhythm guitar (Tailwind), Jimmy Haslip – bass (Funky Greens, Tailwind, Intangible, Newport Coast, Winds Of Change), Andrew Carney – trumpet (Newport Coast), Gary Novak – drums (all tracks), David Mann – horns, arrangement (Dear Friend, Tailwind, On Tap, Intangible, Destiny)

Patrick Bradley – Intangible was produced by Jeff Lorber and released on Patrick’s own label, Patrick’s Song Factory. All songs on the release were written by Patrick Bradley and Jeff Lorber. Intangible marks Patrick’s fourth release in ten years, and his third release with Jeff Lorber.

The 10-track release opens with Dear Friend, a lively, punchy track where Patrick’s talent as a keyboardist shines brightly, as does David Mann’s horns.

Next in the line-up is Funky Greens, which Patrick describes in the liner-notes as, "The song originally was influenced by a trip to the beautiful and serene island of Kauai. The rainforest, waterfalls and coastlines are spectacularly beautiful. As I began writing the song it took on a vibe of its own. Staying with the color green it became the funky jazz salad of Funky Greens." The song features Patrick and Jeff, along with Adam Hawley on guitar, Jimmy Haslip on bass, and Gary Novak keeping the song flowing on drums, and is fabulously funky Jazz.

Tailwind is a stunning composition with Paul Jackson, Jr. layering in a guitar solo, Adam Hawley on rhythm guitar, Jimmy Haslip on bass, and David Mann on horns, followed by On Tap, with Michael Thompson taking over guitar duty, with David Mann on horns, and Gary Novak on drums.

Next in the play list is the title track, Intangible, featuring Adam Hawley on guitar, Jimmy Haslip on bass, David Mann on horns, and is one of my favorite tracks on the release as it flows effortlessly. Find The Way features the multi-talented Jeff Lorber who switches from synth bass and keyboards to guitar, then segues into Newport Coast that gets its west coast vibe with Adam Hawley on guitar, Jimmy Haslip on bass, and Andrew Carney who layers in some wonderful trumpet interludes.

Winds Of Change features Michael Thompson on guitar and Jimmy Haslip on bass, Destiny once again features Michael Thompson on guitar, and the blazing horns of David Mann. The album finishes strongly with Out Of Bounds that had me tapping my feet in rhythm.

Until next time, keep enjoying the music!
