Alex Webb & The Copasetics – Call Me Lucky is A Copasetic Production for Splash Point Music, Ltd. that was produced by Andy Cleyndert and Executive Producer Neal Richardson.

The release opens with the catchy, upbeat song, It’s Your Move featuring the vocals of Vimala Rowe to complement Alex Webb on piano, Andrew Cleyndert on bass, Andy Chapman on drums, and the big band horn section with Freddie Gavita on trumpet, Winston Rollins on trombone, Denys Baptiste on tenor saxophone, and Nathaniel Facey alto saxophone.

Next in the line-up is Winters, which Alex co-wrote with Ayana Witter-Johnson who lends her vocals and also plays cello on this song, with Alex Webb on piano, Miles Danso on bass, Sophie Alloway on drums, Jo Caleb on guitar, and Andres Ticino on percussion.

Me And My Crazy Ideals features vocalist David McAlmont, then segues into one of many favorites on the release, Bad Girls (Need Love Too), with China Moses working her magic on the snappy lyrics. The release continues with the lament, As If featuring Sandra Nkaké, followed by the title track, Call Me Lucky featuring the vocals of Alexia Gardner.

Alexander Stewart is the featured vocalist on Infatuation with Sue Richardson layering in the trumpet to make this song sing the right note. Another favorite of mine is the track, Open The Windows (Tudo Bem) featuring vocalist Cherise Coryna with Sue Richardson again contributing.

China Moses and Alex Webb teamed up to write Nothing But A Blues where she also adds her lovely vocals. Put your swing dancing shoes on and grab your sweetheart before you give a listen to Enough which had me in the mood to dance to Allan Harris’ vocals and those sexy horns. Vimala Rowe again contributes her vocals to Low, Low Places (Parts I & II), and Jo Harrop’s vocals enhance the Latin beat of End Of The Affair.

The release closes with the talented British Jazz vocalist and pianist Liane Carroll working her magic on the Alex Webb song, Words I Never Spoke, which is just Liane’s voice and her piano. For those unfamiliar with Liane Carroll, she sets the standard for Jazz excellence. In 2005, she received two BBC Jazz Awards for Best Vocalist and Best of Jazz, and in 2006 she won the Marston Pedigree Jazz Award for best vocalist. 2008 brought another award as Jazz Musician of the Year in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, in 2012, her release Up and Down won Jazz Album of the Year category at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and in 2016 she won a Gold award from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA). I had the pleasure of hearing Liane play in London in 2003 for her release, Billy No Mates, on the Splash Point Records label, and knew then that she would not be without friends for long.

From start to finish, Alex Webb has crafted a winning release featuring some of the "best of the best" of Jazz talents. This is release that you will definitely want to add to your collection.
