If you enjoy well-crafted Bourbons a visit to Litchfield Distillery located in Litchfield, Connecticut should be on your Spirits radar. Founded by the Baker Brothers – David, Jack, and Peter in 2014, family owned and operated Litchfield Distillery has garnered many awards throughout the years for their excellent Bourbons as well as for their expanded line of exceptional spirts including Gin, Vodka, Rye, Agave Spirits, Ready-To-Drink cocktails, and Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup.

Throughout the years, we have enjoyed visiting and touring Litchfield Distillery and bringing friends and family with us as it is always an interesting and enjoyable experience. We visited Litchfield Distillery again on March 21, 2025, when we were spending the weekend in nearby Kent, Connecticut. Like the “Little Engine that could” the Baker Brothers – David, Jack, Peter, and the Litchfield Distillery Team, have continued to grow the family-owned and operated business, which celebrated its tenth anniversary on December 17, 2024.
One of the things that make Litchfield Distillery special is that they use 100% Connecticut corn grown in its rich soil that impacts the flavor. They use 200 tons of corn, malted barley, and rye to create their very delectable spirits.

Since our initial visit to the distillery in 2021, Litchfield Distillery has certainly lived up to its motto of “The Spirit of Hard Work” as they have increased in size, added another Mueller column still from Germany, added new products to their line of exceptional spirits, and created an enormous “rickhouse” that has doubled their capacity to store their barrels while the spirits are aging.

Following the tour, we enjoyed sampling a few of their new spirits as well as sampling a few of our old favorites. Among their new spirits, we sampled their Batchers’ Gin Honey Barrel Finished, which had a lovely honey finish on the palate that inspired many cocktail ideas; and their Rye Whiskey – Sauternes Finished, which showed how Litchfield Distillery excels at creating different finishing that can uniquely polish up a spirit. Both of these new products were fabulous. We also sampled their Rye Whiskey, which we compared against the Rye – Sauternes Finished. While both were well-crafted, we especially liked the spiciness of the Sauternes Finished Rye and its cinnamon notes.
Mueller Columns
Ready-To-Drink cocktails are on trend now, and we sampled their Espresso Martini Small-Batch Cocktail, Manhattan Small-Batch Cocktail, Old Fashioned Small-Batch Cocktail, and Cosmopolitan Small-Batch Cocktail. Presented in 375 ml bottles, all you need to do is simply shake with ice, or pour over ice, and garnish as you like, and it is like having your own expert bartender at home, on a picnic, at the beach, or enjoying a cocktail on your boat.
Product line & Char Level Examples
Also delicious was their Batchers’ Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup, which also found its way home with us. We could not wait to get home and whip up a batch of buttermilk pancakes made from scratch so that we could drizzle (okay, let’s be honest here, we generously poured) their rich and fabulous maple syrup over a stack of light and fluffy pancakes, garnished with fresh jumbo blueberries, ripe strawberries, and lightly dusted with confectionary sugar. We are now looking forward to using their maple syrup in other culinary and cocktail recipes. Next time we visit, instead of picking up one bottle of maple syrup, we will need to pick up two bottles, one bottle for the kitchen, and one bottle for our bar.

Tours and Tastings: Complimentary Tours are offered on the hour, Monday through Sunday beginning at 11:00 am. The last tour begins at 4:00 pm, with the exception of Sundays, when the last tour begins at 3:00 pm. Tours and Sample Tastings are free.
The Distillery Store Hours: Monday through Friday from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm, Saturday from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm, and Sunday from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm.
