Each time that we visit Paris, France, we always discover something wonderful. On our latest trip in late October 2024, we visited the Musée Yves Saint Laurent, and if fashion is your passion, then a visit there is a must. While we have been to Paris many times, this was our first time visiting this exquisite museum dedicated to the life of French haute couture designer Yves Saint Laurent, which was located very near to the Hotel Villa Marquis, a member of the Melia collection, where we were staying.
Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, better known as Yves Saint-Laurent, or YSL, was a French fashion designer born on August 1, 1936. In 1961, he founded his design house, YSL SAS, with his partner Pierre Bergé at 30 bis rue Spontini in Paris. In 1974, the haute couture design house moved into an architectural historic hôtel particulier jewel box at 5 avenue Marceau in Paris. This stunning mansion is where fashion dreams were created.
In 2002, he ceased working as a couturier and closed the design house. In 2004, the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent opened. Yves Saint Laurent died on June 1, 2008. The Museum tells the story of Yves Saint Laurent who won fashionistas’ hearts through his exquisite collections, and shares wonderful stories, his illustrations, clothing, and jewelry from his vast collections. There is also a fascinating film about YSL’s designs through the years.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to see the exhibition, Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent, The Flowers of Yves Saint Laurent: An unprecedented collaboration between the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Paris., which opened on September 20, 2024, and runs until May 4, 2025.
The exhibition is stunning and his eye to the creation of floral design for his collections is sheer artistry and genius. Having visited The Jardin Marjorelle (Marjorelle Garden) during a trip to Marrakech, Morocco, (which Yves and Pierre purchased in 1980), we knew of his fascination and deep appreciation for flowers, however seeing his floral collection displayed on mannequins, and then in the short film showing models wearing the same pieces from the collection, really brought his talent to the forefront. Also of interest was the spectacular floral jewelry.
Hours: The Museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm. Last entry is at 5:15 pm. The Museum has extended hours on Thursdays until 9:00 pm, with last entry at 8:15 pm. The Museum is closed Monday, January 1, May 1, and December 25.

As always, remember that when it comes to fashion, it is not only about what you wear, but also about how you wear it! Know your own style and have a fashionable season!
