Mikail Akar – Rose Man
We had the pleasure of attending the by invitation only, Opening Reception for Mikail Akar’s Solo Exhibition entitled, UNBELIEVABLE, on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the German furniture flagship store Modus 10 Rolf Benz located in the chic SoHo neighborhood at 7 Wooster Street in New York City.
Since his first exhibition in 2017 in Cologne, Germany, Mikail Akar has garnered appreciative collectors at his international exhibitions in Austria, Turkey, Switzerland, and the United States. Seeing his 2023 UNBELIEVABLE Solo Exhibition at Modus 10 Rolf Benz engaged our imaginations and captured our hearts as well.
Karem Akar and Mikail Akar
Yellow Saka by Mikail Akar
Speaking with the artist’s father Karem Akar, he told us that Mikail started painting at age 4 and he had his first exhibition in 2017 in his hometown of Cologne, Germany. His talent was recognized early on, and he continues to exhibit his works throughout Germany. He had his first international exhibition in Vienna, Austria in 2020, and in 2022 he had exhibitions in Istanbul, Turkey, New York City, United States; Zurich, Switzerland, and Vienna, Austria. In March 2023, he returned to the United States for his UNBELIEVABLE exhibition, and for ArtExpo in New York City.
King Honk by Mikail Akar
While it is noted that Mikail Akar finds his inspiration in the art of American Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), American artist Jackson Pollock (1912-1956), and German artist Gerhard Richter (born 1932), his paintings clearly project his own unique vision, imagination, and creativity. His use of colors and textures, as well as different mediums of canvas and homemade paper, gives his work a rich vibrancy and movement that stands on its own, and should not be compared to other artists. Using a bold color palette, acrylic paint, oil pastels, and spray paint, his paintings have the ability to excite and stimulate the mind, while his whimsical characters have a childlike playfulness that delight the senses.

Edward F. Nesta and Mikail Akar
His work has a dynamic quality and a maturity that goes well beyond his physical years. Mikail Akar is an artist to watch, and we cannot wait to see where his art will take him next. When not painting, this well-rounded artist enjoys playing soccer and is learning to play the saxophone. While he loves painting, he paints only when he wants, and that is the secret that lies behind true inspiration. Bravo!
Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!
