Il Tinello East is in an
intimate 75-seat restaurant located at 244 East 46th
Street in New York City. The restaurant's name translates from Italian to
English as "the Dining Room" and the culinary focus is upscale Italian
cuisine. Owned by Benny G. Bello, Il Tinello East opened on
September 14, 2022, and is the stylish younger sister of Il Tinello West
located at 16 West 56th Street, which opened in 1984. Exquisite
Italian cuisine, an attractive and welcoming ambience, and attentive service
make this elegant restaurant a winner. A short stroll from Central Park and its
proximity to Grand Central make this Midtown Manhattan Italian restaurant a
commuter's dream. Buon Appetito!

Il Tinello East
We had a
lovely dinner at Il Tinello East on Friday, March 31, 2023, where the
restaurant had a lively buzz. The restaurant's ambience is charming and
intimate and begins in its inviting bar which features a great cocktail menu.
The attractive
dining room has a large painting that graces one wall of the restaurant, with
etched mirrors on the opposite side. Smaller paintings add to the overall
ambience and charm of the restaurant. Attractively and formally dressed tables
beckon with their white linens, sparkling crystal, and votive candles to cast a
soft and flattering light on patrons. Black leather nailhead trimmed chairs
flank the tables and provide comfortable seating for leisurely dining.
Dining Room
Our waiter
began our delicious introduction to Il Tinello East with a small bowl of
caponata roasted eggplant, olives, capers, tomatoes), a plate of roasted
peppers and zucchini, and crispy bruschetta, along with a basket of bread to
enjoy with the delicacies, which we paired with glasses of prosecco. It was the
perfect way to unwind at the end of the day.

Bruschetta
The
restaurant has a richly diverse menu to appeal to a wide variety of palates
consisting of Antipasti (appetizers), Zuppe (soup), Insalate
(salad), Pasta, Risotto, Pollo (chicken), Carni (meat),
Pesci (fish/seafood), and Legumi (vegetables).

Vongole Oregananta
We
continued with an Antipasti course of Vongole Oreganata, which
were baked clams topped with breadcrumbs and oregano, accompanied by a generous
lemon wedge. They were delectably succulent and delicious. We also had the Polipo,
presented as an octopus salad, with potato, red onions, caper berries, and
lemon, with a drizzle of basil olive oil on the plate. Fresh and flavorful, the
octopus was another gorgeous presentation that followed through on the palate.

Polipo
Although
the classically made Caesar for Two prepared tableside from the Insalate section
of the menu, tempted us, as did the many selections of homemade pasta, we opted
to continue with two of the selections from the Pesci section, the Gamberoni,
which were grilled jumbo shrimp with cognac, garlic and basil, and the
Calamari, which were lightly fried squid and zucchini. Both choices were
beautifully presented with generous portions and were exquisitely prepared.

Gamberoni
The jumbo
shrimp were stunning in their cognac sauce, and the accompanying vegetables of
carrots, broccoli, and potatoes, provided a complementary counterpoint of
flavor. We paired the shrimp with a glass of prosecco. The squid and zucchini
were fried until delicately golden brown and were both plentiful and tasty
especially when paired with the accompanying rich marinara sauce. We paired the
squid with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

Calamari
We ended
our dining experience at Il Tinello East with two selections from the
Dessert menu to appease our "sweet tooth" with their Tiramisu and their Italian
Ricotta Cheesecake. Both desserts were richly decadent yet had a refreshing
lightness to them. The Tiramisu was light and lovely and was like eating a
cloud, and was paired with a berry sauce, fresh blueberries, and giant, ripe,
and tasty sliced strawberries, and garnished with fresh mint.

Tiramisu
Unlike New
York Cheesecake that is made with cream cheese and has a denser, heavier taste
and texture, Italian Ricotta Cheesecake is made with ricotta cheese, is crustless,
and has a lighter, yet luscious and rich texture. Their Italian Ricotta
Cheesecake received the same presentation as the Tiramisu with accompanying
fresh blueberries, berry sauce, strawberries, sprinkled with confectionary
sugar, and fresh mint. Paired with espressos served with lemon peels, and
glasses of house-infused pineapple grappa, made for a very memorable and
enjoyable evening at Il Tinello East.

Italian Ricotta Cheesecake
Now that we
have found this charming and oh so tasty restaurant, we cannot wait to return
to Il Tinello East for lunch or dinner and experience more of their
delicious menu. The next time we dine there, we want to experience their Caesar
for Two prepared tableside, sample a few of their homemade pastas, and explore some
of the tempting offerings from their chicken, meat, and seafood sections. Of
course, we will be sure to save a little appetite for more of their delicious
desserts, especially their tableside presentations of Banana Flambe and
Strawberry Zabaglione. Until next time, Buon Appetito!
