Levitt Pavilion - Westport, CT, USA
Since we
moved to Connecticut several years ago, we have spent many happy hours in Westport,
attending plays at the Westport Country Playhouse and dining at a few of its illustrious restaurants including The Cottage, OKO, and Gabriele's of Westport, yet somehow the
Levitt Pavilion was not on our radar. We remedied that on Friday, August 5,
2022, by going to see Early Clover and his band perform there, and the wait was
well worth it.
The Levitt
Pavilion, established in 1973 holds an amazing number of diverse genre concerts
and performances to appeal to a wide audience. A few of their past concerts in
June 2022 included Tower of Power, Staples Music Presents: Westport
POPS! Michael Franti & Spearhead, and Isabella Mendes Bossa Nova
Project. A few of the concerts and performances in July 2022 included Otis
& The Hurricanes, Gunsmoke, Comedy Night #2, Joanie Leads, Kitchen Dwellers,
Goodnight Moonshine, and The Larry Fuller Jazz Quartet. August is
also filled with an abundant selection of concerts and performances almost
every evening except for Mondays.

Early Clover and The Soul Drifters
Friday,
August 5, 2022, was a sultry summer evening with temperatures in the 90s with
high humidity, however that did not deter music fans from coming to hear Early
Clover & The Soul Drifters and support the performing arts by sitting out
on the expansive lawn of the Levitt Pavilion and enjoying a fabulous evening of
music.
Sharply
dressed in suits and ties, Early Clover and his band performed an amazing
number of memorable Motown hits including (Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay written
by Otis Redding in 1968, Georgia on My Mind written by Hoagy Carmichael
and Stuart Gorell in 1930, Knock On Wood written by Eddie Floyd and
Steve Cropper in 1966, a blend of Marvin Gaye's 1966 song, How Sweet
It Is (To Be Loved by You), and James Taylor's version from 1975, You
Are The First, My Last, My Everything written by Barry White in 1974,
I'm a Soul Man written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter in 1967, Let's
Stay Together written by Al Green in 1971, My Girl written by Smokey
Robinson and Ronald White in 1964, and so many more, that we lost count.

Early Clover
While he is
the lead singer for The Cornell Gunter Coasters, an Apollo Theatre regular, and
Las Vegas entertainer, Dublin, Georgia based Early Clover is also a dynamic
singer with a deep booming voice made to sing Motown, Blues, R&B, and Pop.
He is a composer and front man for his own band, The Soul Drifters, and together
with his band, kept the mixed age audience enthralled and dancing first in
their seats, and then later as the night progressed, dancing up front next to
the stage. It was a memorable and perfect evening of great music listening to
Early Clover & The Soul Drifters and dancing under a starlit night in
Westport, Connecticut at the Levitt Pavilion.
If you have
the opportunity to see Early Clover & The Soul Drifters perform at a future
event, we highly recommend you take that opportunity. As for the Levitt
Pavilion, it may have taken us awhile to put it on our radar and into our GPS,
but rest assured, now that we have found this impressive venue, we look forward
to returning to enjoy many more concerts there.

Early Clover
Until next
time, keep enjoying the music and supporting the arts!
