Fairmont Tremblant, Mont-Tremblant, Canada PDF Print E-mail
Written by Debra C. Argen

Fairmont Tremblant, Mont-Tremblant, CanadaIf the Fairmont Tremblant, located in Mont-Tremblant, Canada, was any closer to the mountain, I could have reached out my window and touched it. For skiers, it is a paradise, as it is the only ski-in, ski-out resort, and for non-skiers, has enough amenities to make it perfect in any season.

The 314-room (62 are suites) luxury resort built in 1997, is dramatically set against Mont-Tremblant, which has an elevation of 2,871 feet (875 meters) and offers breathtaking views. The style of the hotel is rustic elegance with a bark canoe hanging on a wood wall of the lobby and charming antique ski and sport accents throughout.

Ski in, Ski out at Mont-Tremblant, CanadaThe resort features two restaurants, the casual Wigwam, open during ski season, and the attractive Windigo, where Executive Chef Daniel Tobien uses local products to create authentic regional cuisine. Edward and I stayed at the hotel in February 2009 and had an excellent dinner on a Saturday evening at Windigo when they were featuring their Surf and Turf buffet in addition to the à la carte menu. Seated at a table by a roaring fire in the floor to ceiling massive stone fireplace; it was a romantic evening of dining.

The Fairmont Tremblant has two pools, an indoor pool and an outdoor pool, two outdoor Jacuzzis and an indoor Jacuzzi, and when the temperature drops in the winter, there is something very special and almost magical about soaking in an outdoor Jacuzzi. After walking around the nearby Pedestrian Village during a day of rain mixed with intermittent sleet, hail, and snow we thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to slip into our bathing suits and plush robes and experience the outdoor Jacuzzi. Soaking in the steaming water while gazing up at the snow-covered mountain was a wonderful way to experience Mont-Tremblant.

The hotel also has sauna and steam rooms, which we also experienced, and a state-of-the-art Fitness Center, which always had an inviting basket of regional apples available for guests. As skiers, we especially appreciated the onsite Ski Valet service and the onsite Ski Rental where we were able to rent brand new Solomon ski equipment instead of flying with our skis. And for the ultimate in skiing convenience, the Fairmont Tremblant is the only ski-in, ski-out resort, and we were able to pick up our skis in the morning from the Ski Valet and literally ski to the lift.

The Laurentian region is renowned for their apple products, which the Amerispa incorporates into their Spa treatments. We indulged in pampering Ice Cider treatments in the attractive 16-room Spa, where the fresh scent of apples deliciously wafted in the air.

Whether guests are at the hotel for leisure or business, the hotel has wireless Internet access in the public rooms, high-speed Internet connectivity in the guestrooms, as well as a Business Center. Adding to the long line of amenities, for guests that like to travel with their dogs, the hotel is pet-friendly and offers Pet Sitting and Walking Services.

We stayed in an attractive guestroom on the seventh floor, which is the Gold (Or) floor that offers guests their own little oasis within the resort. Jazz music plays softly throughout the day, a fire roars in the stone fireplace inviting guests to sit by the window and watch the skiers and snowboarders, or curl up in one of the many cozy seating areas and read a good book, play one of the many board games, or use the Internet.

The Gold lounge offers breakfast and sumptuous treats throughout the day and evening with complimentary soft drinks, juices, coffee, and tea, and also a well-stocked honor bar where guests may pour a glass of wine or alcohol and mark a slip to be billed to their room.

Our king bed guestroom had a wonderful view of the mountain, and also the colorful Pedestrian Village conveniently located next to the hotel, that is lined with an inviting assortment of clothing and ski boutiques, gift shops, wine shop, general store, and a wide range of restaurants.

The four-poster bed featured a natural linen canopy, and was dressed with a snow-white duvet, multiple pillows, and traditional white wool and brightly striped Hudson's Bay Point Blanket placed at the foot of the bed. Wood nightstands with tall brown lamps accessorized with natural shades and an RCA alarm clock/radio/CD flanked the bed; there was a floor lamp placed next to a red and green stripe comfortable chair placed in the corner of the room next to a small round black wrought iron and stone table that held an assortment of magazines, and a painted blanket chest; there was a desk with 2 chairs placed next to the window overlooking the Pedestrian Village, and inside the armoire there was a high-definition Sharp television.

The spacious marble and tile bathroom featured a large mirror, combination shower/tub, lighted shaving/vanity mirror, scale, hairdryer, Miller Harris amenities, a bowl of potpourri that gently perfumed the room, and a bamboo plant in a tall vase.

Other thoughtful amenities included a floor-to-ceiling mirror in the entry, a separate area for a beverage maker with coffee and tea, and mini-bar; and in the closet there was a sachet, safe, robes, and slippers, iron and ironing board, humidifier, and a boot tray to hold ski boots and ski poles.

Although the Fairmont Tremblant is a winter sports playground that offers 94 trails and 631 acres (255.3 hectares) of skiable terrain, it is open year round for guests to enjoy mountain trekking, bicycling, water sports on the nearby lakes, golf, and also car racing in the area. The hotel is located within the Pedestrian Village, making it perfect for car-free holidays, although there is much to explore in the surrounding area.
