Medi Bistro
We had dinner at the restaurant on Friday, May 5, 2023, when the restaurant had been open for five weeks. Although very new, Medi Bistro was already making its mark and the restaurant was busy all evening. Tables draped with white linens, artwork gracing the walls, and piped-in music create any inviting and welcoming ambience.
Saffron Vesper and Anar Sour
While the restaurant has an enviable wine list, with wines offered by the bottle as well as by the glass, they also have an inspired cocktail menu where kitchen spices are equally at home behind the bar. We began our experience at Medi Bistro with two of their cocktails, the Anar Sour made with Bourbon, Laphroaig, Pomegranate Syrup, Lemon, and their Saffron Vesper made with Tito’s, Gin, Lillet, Saffron, and Rose Water Tincture. Both cocktails were well-crafted and balanced, with spices recalling fond memories of times traveling throughout the world and were a wonderful introduction to the style of Medi Bistro.
Kashk Badenjoon
A basket of warm homemade pita bread presented with a bowl of yogurt sauce, and a bowl of herb, spice, and walnut sauce, were the perfect accompaniment to our cocktails as we perused the menu. From the "Tasters" section of the menu, we selected the Kashk Badenjoon which was a mouthwatering spread made with fried eggplant, crispy onion, mint, and cream of whey, presented with a basket of warm homemade pita bread, and the Falafel, which were four crispy falafel which had spicy and very tasty moist interiors, accompanied by hummus, tabbouli, tahini sauce, and torshi (pickled vegetables).
Falafel
We continued with selections from the "Feast" section of the menu, with two of their kabob selections, the Lamb Kebab, and the Shrimp Kabob. The lamb sirloin was marinated in mint and yogurt and cooked for 7 minutes on each side, with sliced red pepper and onions grilled between the meat portions. The lamb was succulent, juicy, tender, and flavorful, especially after a sprinkle of the sumac seasoning in a shaker on the table. The accompanying basmati rice was also appealing and was studded with lentils and raisins that added a hint of sweetness to the rice and paired well with the savory lamb. A grilled onion and grilled tomato accompanied the presentation.
Lamb Kebob
The Shrimp Kabob was presented with saffron, orange zest, and pistachio basmati rice, and once again the spices were well balanced with the shrimp acting as a spicy complement to the sweet saffron, orange rice, while the pistachios added another element of flavor and texture. Grilled onions and tomato accompanied this stellar entrée.

Desserts are not to be missed, and we indulged in sharing their Baklava, Saffron Rice Pudding, and Persian Ice Cream. Paired with Persian Tea, which was black tea made with cardamon, which we learned to drink with a sugar cube in our mouth, instead of placing it in the glass, was a lovely finale to a great dining experience at Medi Bistro.
Baklava
The Baklava was thin layers of pastry with toasted pistachios, presented as bite-size portions of delectable pastry accompanied by mascarpone ice cream. The Saffron Rice Pudding was made with basmati rice paired with saffron, almonds, and cinnamon, and was an interesting departure from other rice puddings we had experienced, with their use of basmati rice, and just a hint of sweetness.
Saffron Rice Pudding
The Persian Ice Cream was vanilla ice cream blended with saffron, rose water, and pistachios, and was especially delicious. The deft use of saffron in the cocktails, in the entrée, and in the desserts took our palates on a cohesive and memorable journey and is one that we will want to enjoy again and again. While we dined indoors on this visit to the restaurant, during warmer months, the restaurant will also offer outdoor dining under their signature red market umbrellas.

Until next time, Bon Appetit!
