Claude’s Restauarnt
The attractive restaurant has a glamourous ivory piano for live music on the weekends, tables are nautically dressed in dark blue linens and white napkins, and owner Dede Gotthelf’s beautiful paintings grace the walls. The ambience is at once comfortable and the epitome of Hamptons chic.
We had a lovely dinner at Claude’s on Saturday, March 8, 2020, which was part of a charming and interesting package that consisted of a candlelight tour of the historic Rogers Mansion built in 1843 followed by dinner at Claude’s. Owner Dede Gotthelf and her team strive to create interesting packages to appeal to their guests, and the tour and dinner package was a fine example of the creativity of deftly combining culture and cuisine in Southampton.
On the night we dined at Claude’s there was a three-course prix fixe menu (offered Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm) as well as an à la carte menu and nightly specials. The well-crafted menu was designed to appeal to diverse palates with an excellent selection of seafood, meat, chicken, and pasta offerings. Our server began our evening by bringing a basket of hot rolls to our table accompanied by a bowl of basil infused butter piped into fleurettes, that proved to be very tasty introduction to the restaurant.

(Debra) opted for the prix fixe option, while (Edward) selected à la carte items as well as one of the nightly specials. For one of our starters, we had the Eggplant Rollatini, which was thinly sliced eggplant, lightly breaded, covered in ricotta, herbs and spinach, rolled and baked in a rich tomato sauce, and garnished with microgreens. Beautifully presented in a deep white bowl, the eggplant rollatini was as appetizing as it was visually appealing. We also had the very tasty Clams Oreganata, comprised of six delectable baked clams stuffed with breadcrumbs, herbs, cheese, chopped celery and onion, accompanied by a small salad.

From the Entrée section of the menu, we had the Fish of the Day, which was Swordfish, that was cooked blackened at our request, served on a bed of quinoa, with mango pepper salsa, with haricot verts, zucchini, carrots, and lemons. Attractively presented with a succession of flavorful sauce dots on the plate, the swordfish was moist and phenomenal.

One of the entrée specials of the evening was the Double Cut Veal Chop topped with truffle butter, and accompanied by rosemary roasted potatoes, sautéed brusselssprouts, haricot verts, carrots, yellow squash, and zucchini. This was a stunning presentation and the chop was big and gorgeous, meaty, juicy, cooked perfectly, and very flavorful.

We also sampled the Mini Lobster Ravioli, which was fabulous. Chef Carlos made his own pasta, which was very tender, and filled with a generous amount of succulent lobster meat, served in a rich sauce, that made it another tasty winner.

We ended dinner on a sweet note with desserts of Coconut Sorbet and Profiteroles, both of which were very good. The sorbet had rich coconut flavor and the two chocolate coated profiteroles were light and airy, filled with pastry cream and accompanied by a generous mound of whipped cream dusted with powdered cocoa.

As we were staying at the Southampton Inn, after dinner we took a stroll through Claude’s Gallery to admire the contemporary artwork gracing the walls by artists Candice CMC, Ceravolo, Charles Ford, Robin Morris, and Nickol Renae, before retiring to our luxurious and sumptuous guestroom for a night of sweet dreams.
