It was a sensational evening of Jazz with 2025 GRAMMY® Nominee Christie Dashiell and her Quartet at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, New York. If you have never been to Caramoor, it is worth a trip from anywhere to visit there, and for the opportunity to experience Christie Dashiell in concert in such a magnificent setting, made for a most memorable and magical evening of music. Once the magnificent home of Walter and Lucie Rosen, Caramoor is beautifully set on 81 acres and is a vibrant music and arts center that celebrates its 80th anniversary season in 2025. For the concert on November 7, 2025, The Christie Dashiell Quartet performed in the famed Music Room, which was once the grand living room for the Rosens. You can only begin to imagine how spectacular it was to experience The Christie Dashell Quartet there. Brava!

The Christie Dashiell Quartet was the first Jazz concert of the Caramoor season on Friday, November 7, 2025, and its 80th anniversary season, and Luxury Experience had the good fortune of being there to experience the exceptionally talented Christie Dashiell in a live concert.

Joining Christie for an exceptional evening of music was The Christie Dashiell Quartet with Allyn Johnson on piano and keyboards, Romeir Mendez on bass, and her brother, Carroll (C.V.) Dashiell on drums. The Rosens house, lovingly named Caramoor, was built between 1929 and 1939 in the Mediterranean style with important architectural details, antiques, and decorative arts from Europe that created a majestic setting.

The Music Room, where the concert took place, was the Rosens grand-scale living room, and has a stage with pink marble twisted columns from Verona, Italy, intricately carved ceiling, Renaissance furniture, tapestries, and an abundance of art throughout that give the large room its character and presence.

Christie’s sophomore album, Journey in Black, earned her a 2025 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album, and she opened the concert with a cut off that album, with Ancestral Folk Song, which set the tone for the evening. Whether playfully scatting her way through a song, softly caressing a note, or wailing out, she demonstrated her powerful and exquisite vocal range that kept the audience enraptured. Other cuts off Journey in Black included Influence, The Things You Do, and Invitation. Christie also played some new songs, and covered Henry Mancini’s Dreamsville and Stevie Wonder’s I Just Called To Say I Love You, with gorgeous new arrangements. After a standing ovation, Christie and the band returned for one more song, another cut off her Journey in Black album, Brother Sister.

After the concert, we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Christie and her brother C.V. and learning more about the incredibly talented Dashiell family, including their dad, their mother and 2 other siblings, who are also making their mark in the music and arts. Bravo!

If you have the opportunity to experience the dynamic Christie Dashiell in concert, do so, however, until then, you will want to pick up a copy of the Journey in Black album, which features 7 original songs written by Christie, and two well-arranged covers that will leave you wanting a little bit more…please.

There is always something wonderful happening at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and now that we have “discovered” this cultural gem, we look forward to returning for more concerts and events throughout the year, as well as for their outdoor Summer Concert Series.

Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!
