Rick Vito – Slidemaster, was produced by Mark Vito and released on the MoMojo Records label. Rick Vito writes, “For many years now, friends have asked, when will you release an instrumental album? Having recorded even more instrumental tracks this past year, I finally decided to do just that. To my knowledge there have not been many slide guitar instrumental albums, and out of this came the idea for my new release, Slidemaster. These new works are paired with some of my very favorite cuts from previous albums resulting in a soulful collection of all-instrumental slide guitar tracks. This album comes from years of recording in a style that I hope you will love as much as I do.”
The 12-track release is a stunning collection of well-crafted compositions by Rick Vito, with a smattering of excellence by Peter Green, Sam Cook, Jimmy Hughes, and Albert Hay Malotte. The release has seven compositions by Rick Vito and opens with his Vegas Jump a rollicking composition that sets the upbeat pace for this stellar release that shows Rick’s accomplishment as a gifted instrumental composer as well as his mastery of the slide guitar. Joining Rick on Track 1 are Rick Reed on drums, and Charlie Harrison on electric bass.
Next on the playlist is Steal Away written by Jimmy Hughes back in 1964, a slow and sultry walk between Rick Vito and Charles Johnson on drums, followed by three more great Rick Vito compositions, The Big Beat, where Charles Johnson’s drums set the rhythmic pace, The Danger Zone another slow and delicious composition again with Charles Johnson on drums, and Red Hot Baby, a smoking hot blues number with Rick Reed on drums joining Rick Vito.
The release segues into Albatross, written by Peter Green in 1968, which was Fleetwood Mac’s only #1 single on the UK charts. Joining Rick Vito on Track 6 are Rick Reed on drums, and Charlie Harrison on electric bass. Rick Vito slides in two more of his instrumental numbers with Soul Shadows with Charles Johnson on drums, followed by Slide The Blues with Rick Reed on drums and Charlie Harison on electric bass.
Rick takes his listeners back to 1964 with Sam Cook’s A Change Is Gonna Come off Cook’s “Ain’t That Good News” album with Rick Reed on drums, Charlie Harrison on electric bass, and Mark Horwitz on organ, then follows up with another of his own with River Of Blues.
The last two tracks on the release are Peter Green’s The Supernatural from 1968 featuring Lynn Williams on drums, and The Lord’s Prayer by Albert Hay Malotte that close out a phenomenal release by Rick Vito, a true slide guitar master. Joining Rick on the last track is Kevin McKendree on organ.
Since his days of playing lead guitar with Fleetwood Mac (1987-1991) after Lindsey Buckingham left, his career and extensive list of accomplishments have continued to soar. Rick Vito’s latest release Slidemaster is a testament to his amazing artistry and slide guitar mastery.
