Bottle Notes: “Wheel Horse is crafted and matured at Green River Distilling in Owensboro, Kentucky. As the 10^th oldest permitted distillery in the state, Green River has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s. Our sour mash bourbon is distilled in copper stills and is aged in 53-gallon new charred oak barrels for a minimum of four years. The whiskey is made from a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley, and is bottled at 101 proof, non-chill filtered.” 

Tasting Notes: The color is a rich copper. On the nose, there is the sweet aromatic essence of the sour mash mixture of corn, rye, and malted barley along with toasted oats. On the palate, the flavors are rich and enticing, orange notes, baking spices, and vanilla, with a long and spicy finish.

Cocktail Ingredients:

Method for the Cocktail: Add ice to a blender and process to create “shaved” ice (like snow). Add the ice to a silver Mint Julep Cup (or rocks glass). In a mixing glass, stir the Wheel Horse Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Homemade Mint Simple Syrup together then pour over the ice. Garnish with lots of fresh mint for a heady, aromatic, and very tasty cocktail.

Mint Simple Syrup Ingredients:

Method for the Mint Simple Syrup: Add water and sugar to a small saucepan. Boil until the sugar has dissolved and the liquid is clear. Add the mint leaves and boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and let syrup cool. When cool, strain the liquid into a glass jar and refrigerate the syrup until ready to use. Discard the used leaves.
