Torres Brandy has been making exceptional brandy since 1928, and their consistently award-winning Torres Brandy 20 Hors D’Age is definitely something to celebrate. This aged beauty made with Parellada and Ugni Blanc grapes, is a work of art that begins with its impressive, faceted glass bottle design and large stopper, and continues when you pour it into a snifter glass and are rewarded with its dark amber color, and richly aromatic nose that entices the palate before you take a first sip. Noble, dark amber in color, it has a rich, warm aroma with subtle hints of nuts and dried fruits. The bottle is inspired by a Torres family heirloom, a decanter originally owned by Juan Torres Casals, who made his first brandies in 1928.”

Tasting Notes: Our experience with the Torres Brandy 20 Hors D’Age, Superior Brandy,  began by admiring its deep amber color and continued with our swirling and sniffing its heady aromatic nose where we were rewarded with rich notes of raisin, toasted nuts, vanilla, and cinnamon. On the palate, it was a work of art with its vibrantly long velvety and completely delectable finish mirrored what it had promised on the nose. This is a remarkable sipping brandy, and at $79.99/bottle, not one that you want to be mixing cocktails with, however, a little added to culinary dishes will enliven the recipe and add layers of nuanced flavors.

Luxury Experience – Shrimp Fra Diavolo

Luxury Experience – Shrimp Fra Diavolo with Torres 20 Hors D’Age Superior Brandy celebrates the tradition of excellent brandy paired with a mouthwatering recipe perfect for a cold winter’s night. We created our recipe using jumbo shrimp, green peppers, onions, garlic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), red pepper flakes, crushed tomatoes, basil, parsley, and salt and pepper. We finished this spicy dish with 2-ounces of Torres Brandy 20 Hors D’Age for a memorable finish and presented it over fettuccini cooked al dente.

Luxury Experience – Shrimp Fra Diavolo with Torres 20 Hors D’Age, Superior Brandy
Serves: 2 

Ingredients:

Shrimp, cleaned, deveined, and cooked

Green Pepper, small diced

Method: Heat a saucepan, add the Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), then add the vegetables and red pepper flakes, and sauté until vegetables are tender. Add crushed tomatoes and spices. Cover, and bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer, and cook until sauce is thick. Add cooked shrimp and Torres Brandy 20 Hors D’Age, and simmer for 2 minutes. Toss fettuccini with the sauce.

Presentation: We presented Luxury Experience – Shrimp Fra Diavolo with Torres 20 Hors D’Age Brandy in a covered bowl, arranged the shrimp on top, and added a sprig of fresh rosemary as a garnish.

“In the 14th century, Arnau de Vilanova, a Catalan doctor, developed the first “Aqua Vitae”, a wine distillate for medicinal purposes. The word “Brandy” is of Dutch origin and means “burned wine”. 16th-century Dutch merchants distilled the wine in stills and stored it in oak barrels for transport.
