Townhouse Restaurant & Bar just celebrated its 5th anniversary and having had dinner there on Friday, February 21, 2025, there was plenty to celebrate. Located in the heart of Greenwich, Connecticut on Church Street, the restaurant features elevated American cuisine in a casual, but elegant, fine dining ambience. Cocktails are well-crafted, the food presentations are photo and palate worthy, and combined with attentive, professional service, Townhouse is “the place” to dine in Greenwich, Connecticut. Bon Appetit!

The affluent town of Greenwich has it all; a prime location on Long Island Sound, a charming avenue lined with luxury shops, wonderful restaurants, and proximity to Westchester, Manhattan, and its neighboring towns in Connecticut. In a town notable for its special events including the Greenwich International Film Festival, Greenwich Polo Club, and Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, locals and visitors have another reason to celebrate with Townhouse Restaurant & Bar, as this stylishly elegant, yet casual fine dining restaurant not only has a welcoming ambience, well-crafted cocktails, delectable food, and attentive service, it also has the rarity of on-site parking and valet parking on weekends.

Located on Church Street just off East Putnam Avenue in the heart of Greenwich, Connecticut, Townhouse Restaurant & Bar is a shining culinary star. We had dinner at the restaurant on Friday, February 21, 2025, when the restaurant was bustling with patrons celebrating the beginning of the weekend.

What is especially notable about the Townhouse Restaurant & Bar is the stunning décor that runs throughout the restaurant. Director of Operations Dana Cifone has used her years of hospitality management into creating a stylishly elegant, yet casual and welcoming ambience for Townhouse’s guests whether they want to come in for a quick bite or have a drink at the bar or are looking for a relaxed evening of fine dining and impeccable service.

The attractive décor begins with its long runway of a bar lined with stools, with a mix of high-top tables placed beside the windows that front Church Street, a roaring fireplace, and tables flanking the bar’s inner walls. The restaurant features gorgeous contemporary paintings that add a splash of color to the stylish dining areas. The main dining room has intimate banquettes tucked along the walls for more private dining as well as tables that are well-spaced. Tables are dressed with pristine ivory linens accessorized with tall votive candles and flanked by gray velvet chairs.

For more private dining or for a group celebration, there is dining in The Library, an attractive space with natural light from the large window fronting Church Street. Large contemporary paintings by the same artist as seen throughout the restaurant, grace the steel gray walls, and pick up the accent color of teal velvet chairs.

For large groups, corporate events, and special parties, Townhouse has a stunning space on the second floor called The Penthouse, reached by a separate private entrance with its sweeping, dramatic double staircase. The Penthouse has walls of large windows offering natural light, a working fireplace, and a long bar to create the perfect ambience for a variety of special events.

Each of the dining spaces are gorgeous and welcoming, however we opted to dine in The Wine Room, which is a wine lover’s dream space. Wine racks line the wood walls, black marble tables flanked by black velvet chairs coordinate with the black fireplace surround with grape motif. Votive candles and an intricate gold sculpture add interest to the mantel, and contemporary paintings add pops of color and interest to the room. Also architecturally interesting is the herringbone pattern brick visible in the ceiling cutouts, with recessed lighting, and an artful chandelier to softly illuminate the room.

The restaurant has an interesting cocktail menu, wines offered by the glass and by the bottle, and an extensive and enviable wine list to appeal to wine connoisseurs at a variety of price ranges. We opted to begin our dining experience at Townhouse Restaurant & Bar with two of their cocktails, Uptown, and Macleod.

Macleod Cocktail

The Uptown cocktail was cocktail excellence and made from charred barrel aged high rye whiskey, antica rosso, garnished with a wide orange peel skewered with a brandied Luxardo cherry, and served over a large square ice cube. The Macleod was another well-crafted cocktail, made from Joven mezcal, pineapple, lime, honey syrup, habanero shrub, and dusted with Aleppo flake, and perfect for easing into a Friday night.

The menu consists of Appetizers and Salads, Entrées, Pastas, and Sides, and is diverse enough to appeal to a wide audience, and for return visitors. We began with two of their Appetizers, Pan Seared Foie Gras with aromatic puy lentils, and the Crab Cake, a special of the evening.

Crab Cake

The Foie Gras was elegantly presented on top of a sphere of puy lentils garnished with an edible flower, with dots of sauce to add another nuance to this well-presented dish. The small, peppery, and aromatic puy lentils were well seasoned and acted as the perfect foil to the foie gras.

Foie Gras

The Crabcake was also artistically presented as a crispy exterior ball of seasoned crabmeat topped with avocado cream, garnished with microgreens, and surrounded by a ring of succotash, and chipotle sauce. Lovely to look at, even better when we cut into the crab cake, which was moist, rich, and perfect.

Scallops

We continued with two of their Entrées, Scallops presented on a bed of mushroom and asparagus risotto, and the Roasted Duck presented with dirty rice, thyme, cranberries, and chianti reduction. Both entrées not only lived up to but also exceeded our expectations.

The Scallops entrée was presented as four perfectly crusted golden large sea scallops arranged on a generous portion of creamy and delectable risotto studded with flavorful, earthy mushrooms, and tender asparagus, garnished with micro-greens.

Duck

(Edward) loves duck, and Townhouse’s version of Roast Duck was a generous portion of duck roasted in its skin and cooked to perfection presented on a bed of dirty rice, with thyme, and cranberries with luscious pools of chianti reduction sauce to add another layer of flavor to this well composed dish. Accessorized with an edible purple pansy, the roast duck was exquisite and a beacon of spring. We paired the roast duck with a glass of Cetamura Chianti Cultusboni 2022 DOCG, 13% alcohol, which picked up the nuances of the Chianti reduction used in the sauce and paired well with the duck.

Chocolate Mousse

The restaurant has a diverse desserts menu, and we ended our dining experience at Townhouse Restaurant & Bar on a sweet note by sharing their Chocolate Mousse, which was rich and delicious, a stunning mélange of chocolate mousse, cholate ganache, and chocolate cookie crumble, presented in a dark chocolate shell and topped with fresh crème Chantilly and chocolate curls. For chocolate lovers, this dessert is a must try when dining at Townhouse.

Other intriguing menu items that we look forward to experiencing on another visit include their Crispy Artichokes appetizer, Spaghetti Nero with lobster and scallop in a beurre blanc sauce, and Beef Wellington with porcini and morel mushroom mousse, puff pastry, truffle mash, and jus de veal.
