It was a memorable night of music as two-time Grammy® award winners, The Wallflowers fronted by singer, songwriter, guitarist Jakob Dylan, rocked the packed house at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, for a special benefit concert to support ArtsWestchester with proceeds from the concert benefitting its programs and, ensuring that the arts are accessible to all.
The Wallflowers fronted by Jakob Dylan on guitar and vocals, featured Chris Masterson on guitars and backing vocals, Aaron Embry on keyboards and backing vocals, Ben Peeler on guitars and backing vocals, Whynot Jansveld on bass and backing vocals, and Mark Stepro on drums and backing vocals.
It was an evening of boys showing off all their toys (they had more guitars on stage than some guitar shops have on display) as they swapped out acoustic for electric and stick, and steel pedal for slide, to match each of the songs. The formidable set list treated the audience to a fabulous tour through the years of The Wallflowers’ music and opened with the song, Everything I Need off their Red Letter Days album released in 2002, followed by Move the River, a new cut off their seventh studio album, Exit Wounds, released in 2021.
The band segued into the song, Letters From The Wasteland off their Breach album released in 2000, then continued with two songs off their 1996 album, Bringing Down the Horse, Bleeders, followed by the quintessential New York song, 6th Avenue Heartache. Next came another new song, Roots and Wings off the Exit Wounds album.
The magic continued with two more cuts from the Red Letter Days album, Feels Like Summer followed by When You’re on Top, and I’ve Been Delivered off their Breach album. Moving on, the band segued into the song, Misfits and Lovers off their Glad All Over album, released in 2012.
Moving to the year 2005, they played Here He Comes (Confessions Of A Drunken Marionette) off their Rebel, Sweetheart album, followed by Love is a Country also off their Glad All Over album, How Good it Can Get off their Red Letter Days album, God Don’t Make Lonely Girls, and One Headlight, both cuts off the Bringing Down the Horse album.
They finished the set with the audience on its feet for Who’s That Man Walking ‘Round My Garden from their Exit Wounds album. After a standing ovation, the band came back out and gave the appreciative audience four more memorable songs including a cover of Wild World, followed by an homage to Tom Petty (who was part of his dad, Bob Dylan’s band, The Traveling Wilburys), with the Petty songs, You Got Lucky and Refugee. Jakob Dylan and his band finished the set with The Wallflowers song, Difference, one last cut from the Bringing Down the Horse album, which had the audience on its’ feet and in the aisles singing along. At the end of the concert, Jakob walked the front of the stage and shook hands with fans, making an everlasting impression and connection with them.
Until next time keep enjoying the music and supporting the arts!
