Located at the corner of Prince and Mulberry Streets in the heart of SoHo, in New York City, Japanese restaurant Momoya SoHo will enchant the senses with their stunning and exquisitely prepared cuisine. We spent a very enjoyable and relaxing Saturday afternoon enjoying Brunch at this stylish and oh so tasty restaurant. Inspired cocktails, an excellent menu of diverse appetizers, sushi & sashimi, artistic Brunch Sweets, and attentive service, make Momoya SoHo exceptional. Bon Appetit!
We had a lovely Brunch at Momoya SoHo on Saturday, January 11, 2025, where piped-in jazz created the perfect relaxing ambience to accompany the décor and exquisite preparations prepared by the Sushi chefs at the counter and in the kitchen. The stylish 100-seat restaurant is located on two levels at the corner of Prince and Mulberry Streets. We dined on the first level at a table flanked by turquoise velvet tufted chairs overlooking the Sushi chefs’ station where we enjoyed Brunch and a “show” watching the action.
Brunch would not be Brunch without a cocktail. We began Brunch with two of their inspired cocktails designed by Beverage Director Leo Lé, The Lychee made with Nigori Sake, Lychee, and Lemon and garnished with a lychee, and the Shiso made with Nama Sake, Shiso, and Cucumber, garnished with a slice of cucumber. Both cocktails off the Classic section of the inspired cocktail menu were well-crafted, balanced, and delicious, offering a palate pleasing combination of flavors.
We paired our cocktails with an appetizer of Wagyu Crispy Rice which consisted of Seared A5 Miyaki Wagyu Beef, Spicy Soy vinaigrette, Cumin, and Coriander Seed, garnished with micro sprouts and thinly sliced pickled lotus root. The mélange of flavors and textures made this appetizer very appealing.
We continued with their Tempura Appetizer which consisted of Shrimp and Vegetables, and a Shiso Leaf in a light and delicate tempura batter fried to a golden crispness. This appetizer was presented with Tempura Sauce and Green Tea Salt on the plate for added taste as well as visual appeal.
From the Sushi & Sashimi section of the menu, we shared the Momoya Box, which was a Chef Tasting of Mini Chirasi Bowls. Presented in a wooden box, there were nine mini Chirasi bowls, which consisted of snapper, tuna, toro, fatty tuna, tuna tartar with sea urchin, tempura shrimp, shrimp with sliced tofu, king salmon topped with a generous amount of fish roe, and scallops with sliced lemon, over seasoned rice inflected with dried ginger. Each bowl we sampled offered incredible taste pairings that were artistically presented.
The Brunch Sweets at Momoya SoHo are not to be missed! Offered only on the weekends, we opted to share the Soba Soufflé Pancakes presented as three layers of light and fluffy soba pancakes, artfully draped with homemade mochi skin, topped with Macerated Berries, Vanilla Chantilly, Strawberry, and White Chocolate Sauce, with matcha dusted over the dessert and onto the plate. This was a wow of a presentation, and an even bigger wow on the palate.
Although overwhelmingly satisfied with our Brunch selections, everything that passed by our table to that of the neighboring diners looked incredible from the Signature Rolls, to other Sushi & Sashimi selections, Entrées, and their Matcha Molten French Toast from the Brunch Sweets section, which gives us plenty of reasons to return to this stylish, attractive, and fabulous restaurant in the heart of SoHo.
Until next time, Bon Appetit!
