When it comes to Christmas holiday traditions, the 1954 film White Christmas is at the top of the list as a perennial favorite for many families and was something that (Edward and his father) looked forward to watching together each year. This year, we added Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical at the Music Theatre of Connecticut (MTC) in Norwalk, Connecticut as part of our holiday experiences. Directed by MTC Artistic Director and Co-Founder Kevin O’Connor, this musical has all the fun and fanfare you could want for the holidays, it has a great story line, memorable songs, fabulous dance numbers, and as its Christmas, lots of romance thrown in as well. Add a little holiday spirit to your season and go to see Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical, which runs until December 22, 2024.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical is based on the 1954 Paramount Pictures film White Christmas that starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. The timeline is 1954. Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song and dance act after World War II however Phil Davis has a wandering eye when it comes to women and when the duo meet sisters Betty and Judy Haynes after their performance, and they happen to be headed to Vermont for a performance at a small Inn, unbeknownst to Bob, Phil exchanges their train tickets to Miami, for tickets to Vermont. This is where the fun and games begin when Bob and Phil learn that the Inn is owned by their former Army commander, General Waverly.
This wonderful, feel-good musical features Josh Powell as Bob Wallce, Derek Luscutoff as Phil Davis, Elena Ramos Pascullo as Betty Haynes, Elissa DeMaria as Judy Haynes, Broadway Veteran Scott Mikita as General Waverly, Kirsti Carnahan as Martha Watson, Quinten Patrick Busey as Ralph Sheldrake and Dance Captain, Ella Cahill as Susan Waverly, Courtney Echols as Rita (and Ensemble), Hillary Ekwall as Rhoda (and Ensemble), Rex Glover as Mike (and Ensemble), Melissa Goldberg (Ensemble), Rafa Pepén (Ensemble), Connor Russell as Ezekiel (and Ensemble), and Sarah Warrick as Tessie (and Ensemble).
Bring on the romance, bring on the chaos, bring on the fabulous songs including White Christmas, Sisters, Snow, Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep, and many more, and the large-scale precision dance numbers that had (Debra) tapping along with the dancers while sitting in her seat, and have a very happy holiday season!
We attended Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical’s sold-out performance on opening night, Saturday, December 7, 2024, and fell in love with this production and its amazing cast. As it was opening night, there was a lovely and festive hosted reception catered by Romanacci in Norwalk to continue the celebration after the show.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical at the Music Theatre of Connecticut has a run time of 2,5 hours with an intermission, and runs until December 22, 2024. If you are looking to brighten your holiday season, do see this fabulous musical.
Until next time, keep enjoying and supporting the arts!
