During a weekend stay in Kent, Connecticut, we went to Kent Falls State Park and trekked to the top of the Falls, which was an amazing experience! If you have ever experienced waterfalls up close, you know their majesty, mystery, and magic from their intense beauty, their power, and their musicality, the pristine clarity of the sound of water rushing over the rocks as it pulses from the summit and dramatically to the base. We have visited many waterfalls over the years, and we never tire of experiencing their energy, their power, and their bountiful beauty. When we learned about the waterfalls in Kent Falls State Park, we had to experience them.

Kent Falls, Kent, CT – Covered Bridge
Kent Falls cascades down an impressive 250 feet to reach the Housatonic River, and while you can easily see the waterfalls in the distance from the parking lot, they are so magnificent that you will definitely want to take time to appreciate them up close. Do make time in your schedule to hike to the top of the Falls if you can, or at the very least, bring a picnic and enjoy their beauty from one of the many picnic tables.

Picnic Time
We visited Kent Falls State Park on a perfect early Spring afternoon on Saturday, March 22, 2025, and entered the park from the parking lot by crossing a red historic covered bridge. The weather was lovely, a blue-sky day that brought many visitors to the park to experience the natural beauty of Kent Falls.

Let’s Go For a Hike
After enjoying an al fresco lunch at one of the many picnic tables facing the Falls, (talk about lunch with a fantastic view), we prepared our cameras to take with us on our hike. The trail is 0.84-mile to complete the loop. It starts out as an easy hike with a paved walkway to reach the base of the Falls where you will want to spend a few moments gazing up at their size and power.
There is a trail with steps and a railing that runs along the right side of the Falls. While the hike starts out on the easier side, it gradually progresses to moderate intensity at the mid-way point as the incline becomes steeper and the rock steps become higher and further apart. The trail gradually becomes more strenuous as you hike to reach the top of the trail.

Let’s get started!
There are six scenic vantage points strategically placed along the trail for hikers to be able to stop and take in the beauty of nature and provide perfect opportunities to take photographs. There is also a bench where you can stop to enjoy the view as well as catch your breath along the way.
While the hike will take about 30 minutes to complete, you will want to take your time, enjoy the sights and the sounds of the waterfall, as well as the beauty of the rock formations, the ferns, the moss, and the trees growing in the forest. Interesting to note about the rocks on the main trail is that they consist of Metamorphic rocks including Dolomitic Marble, Schistose Marble, and Gneiss, as well as the mineral Garnet.
We were thrilled when we reached the summit, not only to appreciate the beauty of Kent Falls, but also that we had hiked to the top to fully experience it. We slowly made our way back down the trail stopping occasionally for yet another look, and a few more photographs, to remember our very memorable afternoon spent at Kent Falls State Park.

Made It!!!
Until next time, keep enjoying the adventure!
