We love pizza so much that we always have homemade pizza dough available so we can enjoy pizza anytime at home. Edward is the dough maker, and over the course of years, he has perfected his dough recipe, and we have a large pizza stone that remains permanently in place in one of our ovens. While the pizza stone works, after a recent trip to Brazil and a visit to our friend Sergio’s home where he has a wood-burning pizza oven, we have had pizza-oven-envy and have been on the lookout for a pizza oven. While not yet ready to commit to the expense of having a wood burning pizza oven installed in our home, we were delighted when we “discovered” the Newair® 12-inch Portable Electric Indoor and Outdoor Pizza Oven.
Reaching up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, the Newair® 12-inch Portable Electric Indoor and Outdoor Pizza Oven has the power to deliver commercial results for the home or commercial kitchen. We also liked the fact that it could be used indoors as well as outdoors, making it perfect for outdoor entertaining. The Newair® 12-inch Portable Electric Indoor and Outdoor Pizza Oven has foldable legs and comes complete with a 12-inch ceramic pizza stone, pizza peel, door baffle to maintain the heat while preheating the oven, and a dustproof camp cover, so it has everything you need except for pizza ingredients.
For the start-up we recommend setting up the unit outdoors or in a well-ventilated area as the instructions recommend setting the temperature to the maximum (900 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20 minutes to burn off any residue in the unit.
While we both love pizza, one of us likes thinner crust pizza, whereas the other prefers thicker crust pizza. As the pizza oven is compact, after making a series of trial-and-error pizzas, we learned that if we made the pizza dough too thick the top crust would be burned, and the bottom crust would not be cooked through. We also made an adjustment to the temperature by turning the gauge on the back of the unit to halfway on the grid and marked it with a piece of tape. This resulted in a temperature reading of 500 degrees Fahrenheit via our Infrared Thermometer. We finally found the “secret” to a successful pizza was to make a thinner crust, and we also found the perfect temperature to deliver artisan-style pizzas at home.
Now, the only dilemma we have is what ingredients we want to use on our pizzas, which is hardly a problem as the pizza oven cooks pizzas so fast that we can easily and quickly bake several different pizzas in a short amount of time. Whether we want to make artisan-decadent style pizzas with caramelized onions, goat cheese, and spinach, or a white pizza with artichoke, palm hearts, corn, and mozzarella, or make more traditional cheese or pepperoni pizzas, our pizzas now turn out beautiful each and every time.
