Goosefeather Restaurant - Tarrytown, New York

We had a sensational dinner in a stunning mansion, at Chef Dale Talde’s restaurant, Goosefeather, located in Kings Mansion on the Tarrytown House Estate, in Tarrytown, New York. The restaurant’s focus is modern Chinese cuisine creatively prepared and beautifully presented. The cocktails are well-crafted and inspired, the restaurant has an enviable wine list with wines from around the world, as well as offering an interesting selection of wines by the glass. The food is exceptional, the service is impeccable, and the ambience is gorgeous. Bon Appetit!

We first experienced Chef Dale Talde in action in New York during the 2021 New York City Wine and Food Festival, where his creativity included making grilled cheese sandwiches using a steam iron and a griddle, and were they tasty! Since then, we have seen his creativity at Westchester Magazine’s Wine & Food Festival and have watched him on the culinary television programs Chopped, Iron Chef America, Knife Fight, and Top Chef, where he was a three-time cheftestant and judge on Bravo’s Emmy-winning culinary show, to name but a few of his accomplishments.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, we had an exceptional dinner at Goosefeather where the focus is on modern Chinese cuisine and is located in the historic and stunning 19th century Kings Mansion at the Tarrytown House Estate. Each room of the mansion is artfully decorated, black and white photographs grace the walls in one of the rooms where the subjects photographed all had ties to the area, and artwork by the Spanish artist Joan Miro cover the ceilings. A Tiffany mirror hangs above a fireplace in one of the private dining rooms, and there are unique fireplaces in each of the rooms. The intimate bar is perfect for pre or post dinner drinks or to enjoy dining at one of the small round tables that line the walls. In Summer months, there is also outdoor dining. We had dinner in the Library where wood paneled walls, intricate moldings nodded to its historic past, and antique sconces softly illuminated the room.

Let Me Fly

If you enjoy cocktails, you should try one of their inspired Seasonal Signature Cocktails. We began our evening with their cocktail, Let Me Fly, made with Sesame Wash Tequila, Baiju, Cucumber, Yuzu, Coconut, and Togarashi, and Greedy, made with Bourbon, Strawberry Aperitif, Salers, and Suze. The cocktails were well-crafted and beautifully presented, and what made the cocktails stand out was the use of interesting ingredients like Baiju, which is a traditional Chinese liquor, yuzu a type of citrus from China, Togarashi, which is a 7-spice spicy Japanese blend of chili pepper, citrus peel, and other ingredients, Suze and Salers which are French aperitifs.

The restaurant has an enviable book of wines that can take your palate around the world, as well as offering a broad selection of wines offered by the glass, Sake, a variety of Beers, and inspired Mocktails and Zero Proof Cocktails.

The well-curated menu consists of Salads, Vegetables, Dim Sum, Noodles and Rice, Large Plates, and Dessert, with a delightful selection of Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten Free offerings on the menu to appeal to diverse palates.

Sweet Summer Corn with 5-Spices

We began our evening with Sweet Summer Corn, 5-Spice, Sweet Soy, and Brown Butter Labneh, a Vegetarian option from the Vegetables section of the menu, which was grilled sweet corn that enticed the palate with its delectable blend of spices and complemented by the Brown Butter Labneh. In a word, fabulous!

Chrysanthemum Leaf Salad

From the Salad section of the menu, we shared the Chrysanthemum Leaf Salad, with ginger sesame, crispy vermicelli, and cucumber, which was a Vegan and Gluten Free option. This was the first time that we experienced these slightly bitter greens, and dressed in ginger sesame, thinly sliced cucumbers, black sesame seeds, and crispy vermicelli to add texture, it was another engaging course that created an inviting conversation on our palates.

Crispy Shrimp Bao

We continued by sharing the Crispy Shrimp Bao, Pickled Daikon, General Tsao’s Sauce, and Cabbage from the Dim Sum section of the menu. If you have never had bao buns, they are soft white buns that are like eating soft clouds. Paired with the crispy shrimp, pickled daikon, and spicy Tso’s sauce and cabbage, they were delectable.

Crab Rice, Jalapeno Aioli & Tobiko

The Noodles and Rice section had many interesting dishes so for our next course we shared the Crab Rice, Jalapeno Aioli, and Tobiko, a Gluten Free offering. Studded with strips of fried egg yolk and crowned with a plethora of red and black tobiko (Japanese fish roe) to add color, flavor, and texture, and garnished with fresh cilantro leaves, this was another wow of a course with interesting flavors and textures to entice the palate.

Char Siu Bershire Pork Belly

We shared three of the Large Plates, beginning with the Char Siu Berkshire Pork Belly, Cherries, Toasted Coconut, and Chinese Mustard. Gorgeous to look at, even better when eaten. Perfectly cooked and glazed with a rich sauce, the pairing of the cherries, toasted coconut, cilantro, and other herbs, provided for a memorable taste and insight into Chef Dale’s creativity. While the cherries are seasonal, at other times of the year the pork belly is offered with apples or peaches.

We also had Shrimp & Crab Stir-Fried Noodle, Summer Corn, Cherry Tomato, and Holy Basil (also called Tulsi), which was another stunning palate pleaser with the taste of Summer, and garnished with fresh cilantro; and the Char Siu Cauliflower, Cantonese Chow Chow, which was a very tasty and delicious Vegan and Gluten Free offering.

Strawberry Coconut Snow

As with the rest of the menu, the Desserts are creative and inspired and deserve to be experienced. We shared two of the three dessert options, the Strawberry Coconut Snow, Chocolate, Coconut, Fresh Strawberries, and the Mango Mochi Waffle, Cornflake Crumble, and Mango Sorbet.

Mango Mochi Waffle

The Mango Mochi Waffle was crispy, crunchy, and creative, and paired with the mango sorbet it was very delicious. The Strawberry Coconut Snow had a “secret” chocolate cake at its core and presented in an attractive coupe dish it was a light and refreshing way to end a gastronomic evening.

We dined at the restaurant on a Tuesday evening, when the dining rooms, outdoor dining spaces, and the bar bustled with patrons out to enjoy a beautiful Summer evening. To make the evening last just a little bit longer, after having dinner, many of the patrons went outside and sat in the chairs on the wide expanse of Front Lawn under a sparkling string of lights. On Friday and Saturday evenings in the Summer there is a DJ on the lawn to keep the party going.

Goosefeather Outside Dining - photo by All Good NYC

In addition to serving Dinner, the restaurant also serves Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, which we look forward to experiencing sometime in the future. Goosefeather hosts many special events throughout the year, including their upcoming Labor Day BBQ on the Front Lawn on September 6, 2026, Mahjong Mondays @ Goosefeather on September 14, 21, and 28, 2026, and special wine and spirits dinners, so be sure to check out their website for more information.

Located in Westchester County, 3 miles from Sleepy Hollow, New York, 25 miles north of Manhattan, and 24 miles from Greenwich, Connecticut, your palate deserves to experience Goosefeather.

Until next time, Bon Appetit!
