an acclaimed fine dining farm-to-table restaurant, Apropos Restaurant & Bar, hiking trails, complimentary bicycles, and a seasonal outdoor
pool.

panoramic views of the Hudson River Highlands, The Abbey Inn & Spa provides
a host of activities and experiences to appeal to guests in every season.

Front Lawn Gazebo
We stayed
at The Abbey Inn & Spa on Friday, September 22, 2023, and instantly fell in
love with this unique and very special, Inn. The property was once the former convent
and chapel of the Episcopal Sisters of Saint Mary from 1902 until 2003, when
the nuns moved their location. Developer Martin Ginsberg purchased the property
and beautifully restored the historic property to create a luxury boutique
hotel, which opened in March of 2020. Having spent a lovely, romantic weekend
there, no wonder it's a darling for weddings.

Things to

Discover
History at The Peekskill Museum

The Peekskill Museum
To become
acquainted with Peekskill's interesting history, we visited The Peekskill Museum on
Saturday, September 23, 2023, and took a tour with John J. Curran, Museum Vice
President, and learned about the interesting history of Peekskill and its historical
prominence in the Revolutionary War.
Located in the
former residence owned by Dwight Stiles Herrick, the Queen Anne Shingle Style house
was designed by William Rutherford Mead, who went to Amherst with Mr. Herrick. Interesting
to note about William Rutherford Mead is that he later joined Charles McKim and
Stanford White, in the legendary architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White,
who designed many New York City landmarks including Penn Station, Madison
Square Garden, Metropolitan Club, The Morgan Library, the University Club of
New York, and many others.
While the
house is interesting architecturally, it is the contents and artifacts that
will intrigue historians, as well as delight visitors of all ages. A few of the
many Museum highlights include objects from the Revolutionary War, as well as clothing
and shoes, a beautiful dollhouse, dolls, toys, canes, walking sticks, and a
"high wheeler bicycle," and so much more. Do make time to visit The Peekskill
Museum and take an insightful step back in time.

located on the riverfront opposite the Peekskill Metro-North train station,
with its impressive "Jan Peeck's Vine PEEKSKILL" created by artist Joy Taylor.
One of the centerpieces of the park is the large-scale bronze sculpture of a
male diver by American Artist and Sculptor Carol A. Feuerman (1945) entitled, "The
Golden Mean" created in 2012.

"The Diver"
Also

Thompson's Cider Mill

Thompson's Cider Mill
Apples, apple cider, and cider donuts are the essence of Autumn in
Hudson Valley. We visited Thompson's Cider Mill on Friday,
September 22, 2023, and met with owner Geoff Thompson, who started making cider
in 1975, to learn more about the fascinating art of making apple cider and hard
apple cider. We took a tour of the orchard and did some serious fresh and hard
cider tastings. Of course, we brought home a large bag of apples, as well as a
selection of fresh and hard ciders to remember our very tasty visit.

Let's pick some apples
Thompson's Cider Mill handcrafts fresh cider, and 9 types of dry and semi-dry ciders in
small batches. They are open seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am
until 5:00 pm at 335 Blinn Road, Croton-on-Hudson, New York, where they sell
apples, cider, and 9 varieties of dry and semi-dry hard ciders.
They also sell their products at Thompson's at Fable Farm, seasonally
on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. The Farm is located at
1311 Kitchowan Road (Route 134), in Ossining, New York. They sell fresh apple
cider, donuts, apples, pies, and baked goods. Note: They do not sell
hard cider at the Farm.

New Croton
Dam - Enjoy the Beautiful Vistas

New Croton Dam
We took a
morning stroll over the New Croton Dam walkway that was finished in 1906. Construction on
the New Croton Dam started in 1892 and took 14 years to complete. It offers
visitors magnificent views of the lush landscape surrounding the water. It is
the perfect location to enjoy the Autumn scenery when the leaves don their
finest colors of red, orange, and gold, in Winter when the trees are covered in
a pristine blanket of snow, in Spring when the tree buds awaken, or in the heat
of Summer to appreciate the cool breezes blowing across the water.
