The holiday gift season is just around the corner, and the Antiques & Art at the Armory in New York, November 29 - December 3, 2007, will definitely provide inspired gift giving.
When the Antiques & Art at the Armory show opens on November 29, 2007, over 70 international dealers representing high quality art and antiques from Canada, France, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States, specializing in 20th Century Decorative Arts, and 18th - 20th Century Furniture, Jewelry, Modern & Contemporary Art, Oriental & Asian Art, Paintings, Drawings & Prints, Porcelain & Ceramics, Sculpture, Silver, Textiles & Rugs, and Works of Art, will bring the world of luxury to The Park Avenue Armory in New York.
Whether you are looking for a major acquisition for yourself or for a gift for that special someone in your life, the Antiques & Art at the Armory show, now in its third year, provides an inviting venue for seasoned as well as novice collectors, with pieces available in all price ranges. Attending the show for a collector is like being let loose in a candy store for a child; it is all so very tempting.
Having attended The Spring 2007 International Art and Antiques Show in April 2007, where I had fallen in love with several of the pieces I had seen at the show only to find out that they had already been sold, I will definitely mark my calendar to attend the Antiques & Art at the Armory show early, because you never know what exciting surprises the dealers might be bringing with them.
I spoke with Meg Wendy of Westchester Enterprises, Inc. and did some pre-show browsing so to speak, to learn about a few of the many wonderful offerings that will be in store for visitors to the show. Antique jewelry is one of my passions, and I learned that one of the many exceptional highlights that will be at the Antiques & Art show for the jewelry collector will definitely include the Royal golden dog brooch by Tiffany & Co. with original box, which was the former property of Her Royal Highness, The Princess Margaret, presented by Curiosites, LLC in New York who specialize in antique jewelry; imagine the cache of adding that darling brooch to your collection.
Another tempting jewelry offering at the show sure to light up the night, as well as the heart of the wearer, is a gorgeous pair of Van Cleef & Arpels, Paris, "Gardenia" earrings with fancy yellow and white diamonds presented by Hollis Reh & Shariff of Southampton, New York who specialize in fine estate jewelry: period and signed. I can only imagine the fabulous places and the occasions where those striking earrings must have been worn. If jewelry could talk, I would love to hear the wonderful stories that those earrings might tell. I know that I certainly would not mind finding them wrapped up with a pretty bow and my name on the gift tag at the holidays!
Whether your interest is fine art or contemporary art there is something for every collector at the show. One of the art highlights for collectors will be the Picasso, 1946 Lithograph on paper, entitled, "Françoise" signed in pencil and numbered 5/50, Edition of 50, Bloch 401 presented by the Hubert Gallery in New York that specializes in Fine Art.
Asian art collectors might find a Guan-type Celadon vase, Longquan Kilns, Southern Song Dynasty, 1127-1279, presented by Asiantiques in Winter Park, Florida that specializes in fine quality works of art and decorative pieces from China, Japan, and Korea, to be of particular interest.
A lovely silver offering from Tobes, LTD, based in Stanmore, United Kingdom, and specializing in silver, is a William & Aaron Lestourgeon antique silver tea caddy, London, 1769, with a floral finial, would certainly be a wonderful gift.
The show will have an excellent furniture selection, including a Raval and Bertrand small sycamore veneered lady desk, with a top doubled with tobacco Morocco desk blotter, ornamented with a narrow glass shelf and a small wooden locker closing by a wood roll shutter from 1931, presented by Jacques De Vos, Paris, France, specializing in French high end furniture and furnishings, signed pieces and fantastic bronzes.
Double Knot of New York, which specializes in carpets and rugs, will be presenting a number of their carpets including an Antique Oushak Carpet, First Quarter of 19th Century, which is an early example from the famous Oushak region, which predates the export boom and its influences on the design and color choices. Provenance: Western Anatalia (Turkey).
There will also be luxurious rare clocks, music boxes, sculpture, garden antiques, objets d'art, and many other surprises, so you will not want to miss attending this show, where you might just have the opportunity to complete your holiday gift checklist. Of course, if you cannot wait until November 29, 2007 to see what the Antiques & Art at the Armory show has to offer, there is always the opportunity to purchase tickets to attend the Benefit Preview on November 28, 2007, for The Boys' Club of New York. Not only will you be helping a wonderful charity, but you will also have the opportunity to do some advance browsing at the show.
